Which position at McKinsey or EY or BCG London

Dear All,

I am finishing a PhD in Environmental Sciences, GIS & AI from UCL. I previously studied at Sorbonne University (France) and Columbia University (US). I hold 9 years of international experience in more than 20 countries and a strong network with governmental agencies and authorities.

Furthermore my expertise is internationally recognized with prestigious prizes including the UNESCO Women in Science, was in Forbes 30under 30s. I was also appointed in many UN Boards (UNESCO Youth, STEM, Ocean Decade)…, where I had to design, lead and implement regional and global strategies with a variety of stakeholders.

I was wondering what could be the best job level for me if I want to work at McKinsey, EY or BCG. I would be grateful if you had an idea of the salary range that I may be entitled to. Many thanks for the potential information you might share with me !

Hey there!

With your impressive background, you would likely be considered for an Associate role at McKinsey and BCG, or a Consultant role at EY. Given your PhD and extensive experience, you might even explore specialized roles in sustainability or public sector consulting. Salary ranges in London for these positions typically (from my experience in Germany & my judgment) fall between £80-110K base, with performance bonuses on top. Let me know if you need more details—happy to help! ?

Hey,

A post-MBA position at MBBs: Fellow Associate / Associate at McKinsey and Junior Consultant / Consultant at BCG.

It's important that you not only target these 3 firms but apply to a range of Tier1/Tier2/Tier3 firms as well (around 10+ in total) in order to maximise your chances of getting an offer.

Good luck!
Nick

Hey there,

Given your highest qualification (PhD, and this being higher than MBA) and number of years of experience(9 years, and this being greater than 5-8 years), you qualify for Associate at McKinsey or Consultant at BCG

If you had direct management consulting experience and have led teams there, there would have been a case for Engagement Manager at McKinsey or Project Lead at BCG. But without that, then definitely it's Associate / Consultant

Also, a general good practice piece of advice I recommend to everyone is that you should always clarify eligibility queries with recruiters, as they will invariable always know how they will screen and what they are looking for

All the best

Ex-BCG Project Leader (Energy + Climate & Sustainability) | Experienced Interviewer

With direct experience as a manager at other consulting firms, the Associate (Mck) / Consultant (BCG) / or other post-MBA levels at other firms is the right entry point. I'd be happy to work with you to ensure that your CV compellingly presents this impressive background.

Connect with consultants (junior and senior; partners will have more influence) to secure referrals and stand out from the CV pile.

It's also never too early to start preparing for case interviews. I'm happy to discuss your needs in more detail and create a tailored plan!

Hey there,

Your qualifications and experience put you nicely at Associate level with McKinsey and Consultant level with BCG.

If you had direct prior management consulting experience leading teams, engagement manager and project lead could have been on the cards. But without prior (management) consulting leadership background - then it would be Associate / Consultant

I always recommend candidates engage with recruiting to understand their eligibility considerations
