I’m thinking of using Rocketblocks, is it any good? Any other recommended prep materials?

Thanks.

Hi there,

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • In order to prepare for the personal fit part of the interviews, I would highly advise you to research common general and behavioral personal fit questions, prepare structured answers in writing, have your answers double-checked by a professional, and then practice your answers until you can recall them in detail yet still sound authentic.
  • Moreover, based on the information available, I do not believe that Rocketblocks is a meaningful way to prepare for the personal fit part of the interviews.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hello,

For fit preparation, you need to do the following:

1) Prepare written + structured + clear answers to a bunch of fit questions

2) Practice these answers to the extent that you remember them + make sure the answers sound genuine (not mechanical)

For both 1 and 2, you need to apply your personal efforts, and seek the efforts of peers/coaches to practice with. I do not think it is worth to use any online platform for fit.

If you need a coach to give you access to difficult fit questions, practice with you and give you feedback, i am happy to help!

Best,

Rushabh

Hi there,

Do NOT use rocketblocks for frameworking. (they're really bad at it)

DO NOT use rocketblocks for fit practice.

DO use rocketblocks for charts/exhibits. (They're “the best” at it)

For fit interviews use human beings. Online resources are mostly a waste here…fit/behavioral interviews are about you talking to the interviewer. As such, get friends/colleagues/coaches to actually ask you those questions live and practice your answers.

Here's some fit reading (but again, please practice live and outloud with people): https://www.preplounge.com/en/articles/tell-me-about-yourself-interview-question

Hi there,

I would read a proper guide on fit interviews (e.g., my book where I cover this topic extensively), prepare your answers, then practice fit interviews with peers based on the criteria and types of questions (general and difficult ones).

You want to practice with challenging mock interviewers that monitor your delivery, content, and structure.

All the best,

Florian

Hi there,

Short answer, no, would not recommend to use stated resource for fit - there are much better ones out there, also here on the platform.

Instead, suggest you consider the following points for more targeted prep..

  1. Build the foundation - some of the coaches here wrote good guides on this - check those out to learn how to structure your answers and other nuances. In addition, most MBA case books would have a repository of common questions asked.
  2. Practice with experienced interviewers - doesn't have to be a case coach, if there's financial constraint, but someone who has hired before will be able to ask the right questions and, more importantly, give you actionable feedback on how to improve.
  3. Don't overdo it - don't try to rehearse and memorize too much. Excellent candidates come across as structured, yet fully natural in their responses.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reach out if you'd like to learn more how you can stand out with your fit answers as a candidate.

Cheers, Andi

#1 rated MBB & McKinsey Coach

Hi there,

For personal fit, using a platform or reading materials is a good starting point.

The next level is practicing with friends, family and other candidates.

The final level and the one that increases your success rates the most is actually practicing with a coach. Then you'll get to understand what does and what doesn't actually work so you can calibrate it before the actual interview.

Best,

Cristian
