Dear community,

I wonder to which extent it is important to graduate from INSEAD/LBS with distinction to have an MBB’s gig in the ME‘s offices?

Many thanks in advance!

If you are graduating from a top MBA school, it doesn't make a big difference, as they interview most students (as long as they pass the pre-assessments).  If your resume is a bit sub-par, a bit of networking is an easier way to get the interview.

Moreover, for Middle East, they are in high demand for candidates. If you are from the region, you'll most likely get an interview if you have a Top MBA. If you are not from the region, the bar to get the interview will still be lower than in the very high sought places.

Moreover, please not that not all schools disclose grades, and frequently you actually interview before knowing the final grades.

Lastly, once you have the interview, it makes absolutely no difference. It's all about your interview performance.

Hi there,

It sounds like you're talking about an MBA at these schools? They have non-grade disclosure so dinstinction/dean's list doesn't matter!

For your undergrad degree, grades matter a lot (and a high distinction is the result of high grades, so in that sense it matters).

Hi there,

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • Generally speaking, standing out positively as someone with a lot of drive and eager will always be beneficial for you, not just for the consulting industry.
  • As such, in case you would enter the consulting industry with an MBA from either one of the two universities, I would advise you to focus on scoring high. While recruiters will certainly have a thorough look at your whole profile from your application files, “ending on a high note” with a solid MBA will still make the screening process smoother.
  • In case you would pursue the MBA as part of your leave program in consulting, obviously, the immediate impact of your scores will not be significant. Still, I would advise you to think about possible mid- and long-term effects since your future employers might put equally strong focus on your academic achievements as consulting companies do.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare your application for the consulting industry, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen
