Signing Bonus

all,

Is signing bonus standard part of all offers for all mbb firms? Is there reason for some firms not to offer one? Is it okay to negotiate?

Thanks.

Depends on firm, region, job level, and your level of education. Depending on the above mix, this can range from US$0 to US$30,000+.

Should you negotiate? Sure, with the right tactic. But manage your expectations.

Best of luck!

Signing bonus depends on the office and on the seniority.
It is normal to have it after the MBA.
It is fine to negotiate a small increase, given that usually there is no risk of a backlash.
That said, be careful in how you negotiate, it is always important to prove that you like the firm and that you already think like an employee.

Hi there,

It totally depends. For example, hires out of MBA programs always get signing bonuses. Entry level hires are less likely to.

It's completely dependent on role, hiring channel, region, company, etc.

In general, you should always negotiate (unless it's your first job and your only offer)

Hey there,

This depends on two factors:

  1. The office
  2. The role

There is no answer that would apply globally for each firm. Chances are higher for signing bonuses if you are a senior hire.

You can always ask about it but manage your expectations. :-)

Cheers,

Florian

Dear candidate, it is also office dependent on whether there is a sign on bonus or not. Many times one will be offered but for some packages there is none. Are you looking to negotiate one? Which firm and office and role? Best regards

Usually not at the entry level ranks, and not very frequent for industry hires. More frequent for MBA grads and consultants moving between firms. But this really depends on the specific office.

In the US, signing bonus is 100% negotiable

Hi there,

usually, it is but there can be some differences by region or role (e.g. just and intern, temporary position, etc.).

There is room for some negotiation 10-20%.

Good luck

Lucie

Hi there,

I know with MCK you cannot negotiate, since the signing bonus is the year end bonus that they will give it to you upfront as a signing bonus. ( basically they don’t pay any annual bonus for your fist year) . It’s a standard package usually.

Must be a local practice and isn’t generally the case. Got both signing bonus and prorated year end bonus in my 1st year.
