Oliver Wyman Interview outcome

Hello everyone,

I had my last round 2 days ago for the Senior Consultant position at Oliver Wyman.

It has been 2 days now and I have not heard anything from the HR.

1 - Does this mean that I am rejected as I believe people who get offers are usually the ones who heard back in maximum 2 days?

2 - Should I follow up with HR? I do not want to get into weekend with anxiety.

Hi there,

thanks for sharing this. Here is my view..

Re 1: No, this does absolutely not mean that you are rejected. There can be many different reasons for why the decision of an interview round takes a few days or longer. In many of these cases, it can be a process-related reason that causes delay, rather than under-performance

  • Interviewer has not submitted the score yet
  • Scores haven't been calibrated between interviewers yet
  • HR running behind with consolidating
  • Large volume of candidates to be processed
  • Someone fell sick
  • IT system down
  • etc…

I'd suggest you don't interpret too much into it and also not get anxious about “typical timeframes” you may have heard and read about. In fact, from my personal experience, 2 of my consulting offers were communicated between 10 and 14 days after my final round. Also, as a former interviewer with BCG, I can also assure you that writing & calibrating evals sometimes gets delayed, esp. then the interview happens mid week (like it seems to be the case for you) and the project an interviewer works on is very busy / has lots of back-to-back.

Re 2: No need to follow up with HR at this stage - it's been only 2 days. I would wait for a week and then send a kind follow up, if really nothing comes back meanwhile.

Hope this helps. Wish you all the best meanwhile.

Regards, Andi

Hi there,

You have not been rejected. Until you receive and email/call you have not been rejected.

Following up with HR after 2 days is not advised - put it in your calendar to reach out in 2 weeks time.

It's ultimately your decision as to whether you go into the weekend with anxiety or not :) Realize you have no control over what happens next and that thinking about it won't change anything. What's done is done. Also realize that regardless of what happens your life isn't over. Life goes on an you'll have other jobs/opportunities.

Fingers crossed for you!

Hi there,

1 - Does this mean that I am rejected as I believe people who get offers are usually the ones who heard back in maximum 2 days?

Not necessarily.

  • If they get back in 24-48h – it is usually a good sign
  • If they get back within 1 week – unclear. Could be good or bad
  • If they get back after 1 week – it is usually a bad sign

2 - Should I follow up with HR? I do not want to get into weekend with anxiety.

I would wait one week before following up.

Good luck!

Hi there,

I wouldn't read too much into HR tardiness: often the inflow of candidates is larger than expected, and the HR just find themselves behind schedule.

I agree with Francesco and would give it a week before following up: if anything, this will also put you in a better position to negotiate your signing bonus, as it will avoid wrongfully signalling the firm that they are your only option :)

Good luck!

Please be patient and allow them 1-2 weeks. Its not an accept/reject until you officially get one.

No point speculating and getting anxious. Nothing good will come out of it. Relax and let things happen.

All the best and fingers crossed for you.

No, it doesn't mean that.

Consultants are working on projects 195% of their time. Then they'll take the remaining 5% and take case of other activities. Even so, they are so much faster than regular companies, that more often than not take several weeks to come up with a decision…

Taking 1 week to turnaround on a decision is actually a short time frame. 2 days is… super efficient.

Additionally, consulting firms actually give out answers to 99.99% of the candidates. And once they decide it, they will let you know.

Don't do anything.

Hello!

Don´t worry, 2 days is very little! Many reasons could explain why they haven´t called you yet. Indeed, do kindly follow up with HR.

Fingers crossed for your outcome!

Cheers,

Clara
