Hi

I started an application with one of the office in Mckinsey as an experienced hire. The first round interview was with HRs and it went well. I was told there were supposed to be two interviews in the second round with EMs. I had my first one a month ago, the formate of the interview was quite deviated from what they said on the website and I don’t think it went well. The experience they asked for, didn’t match well what I have.

Then after that interview, there was no response from the HR.  I followed up one week after the interview and HR asked me if I had time available for an interview the week after. I replied with my available date and time, but after that, it has been 3 weeks and no more response the HR. I tried to reach out to her several times and asked if there would be a second interview or a decision has been made and the process has been terminated, but still no response. Online status still shows in progress.

I understand I am not a strong candidate but if there is any chance I would try to get it. Any suggestions on how I could turn this around, even though the chance is low?

If they were to reject you - they would have let you know.

A “no response” just means some delay, and that you got to wait it out and keep chasing the HR.

Mckinsey (and other top consulting firms) treats HR processes seriously. So when you have a rejection you will know. If they said the want a 3rd interview, there will be a 3rd interview.

So start preparing for that and make sure you improve since the previous one.

In the meantime yes, it seems that you may have to chase HR for a while, although that is not supposed to be necessary.

Thank you for the response! I have to say it is a bit unusual to see something like this based on what I heard about Mckinsey but as long as there is a chance. I will do my best to get it.

Hi there,

You just need to practice a bit of patience! I'm a bit concerned by “I tried to reach out to her several times” - I really hope “several” means once or twice and not 3+.

Try to be patient in this process and only follow up after multiple weeks of no response - these things take time to process!

Thank you for the response! I contacted the HR 1 week after the interview, she said she tried to schedule one the week after. Then the 2nd week I followed up but no response. Last time I contacted her was 2 weeks after, the 4th week after the interview. I tried to tell HR that I am excited about the opportunity but if it would take longer I can wait. I will be more patient and continue to follow up like every 2-3 weeks. Thanks.

Hi there,

McKinsey normally focuses a lot on having a good recruiting process. If they mentioned one additional interview, I don’t think they will cancel it, even if your performance in the first interview was not good.

I would recommend trying to contact HR over the phone as it has been already 3 weeks since you heard from them.

Best,

Francesco

Thank you! I tried to call but only reached her voicemail so I left a message to the HR. Yeah, it has been 3 weeks since I heard anything from her. I sent her message through linkedin this week and started to ask if the process has been terminated, please let me know, if not I can be patient.

No. I feel like the time I have to wait will be long. May be in terms of weeks to months.

Hey! Were you able to get a response? I am in the process and haven’t heard from the HR since 3 weeks? Just wanted to know what happened to your process… :)
