McKinsey Summer BA - PSG

Hello,

I applied to McKinsey Summer Business Analyst Intern position June 15 from a target school. I have 3.9+ GPA and a solid resume. Yet, I haven't received the PSG test like some of my peers. I did apply to a small office… I'm confused on what I should make of this. Did I not pass the original screen? My status on the portal still says ‘submitted - in progress’.  Should I reach out to HR? Any info helps.

Thx

Hi there,

Ultimately impossible to tell without reaching out to HR, which is a valid thing to do at this point.

However, from what I see in various McKinsey locations around the world (small and big offices) is a huge backlog for everything recruiting related, including rejections and invitations to interviews.

Hence, don't be down and keep up the good work - you'll hear back sooner or later. Fingers crossed it will be positive!

Best of luck!

It would be a good idea to reach out to the HR directly and check with the reason for not receiving the link, since it isn't uncommon to face delays sometimes in such cases. It might be technical issue or otherwise as well, however best to confirm. Meanwhile, you can always explore opportunities in other offices and other organizations as well, best to utilize the precious time continuing the hard work and keep applying.

All the best!

Hi there,

At the end of the day it's an odds game! Nothing is ever guaranteed (perhaps you had a 70% chance and just fell on the wrong side of things).

You should continue networking with and applying to other firms - never put all your eggs in one basket.

Good luck to you!

Hi there,

Yes, so far you know others have received the test, I would call HR with the “excuse” to check if they received everything. Or, in case you submitted via referral, you can check with your connection.

Good luck!

Hello,

Definitely feel free to reach out to HR, just to get some light on your situation, especially if you know that some of your peers have received the PSG test. It's the only way to know for sure. As an ex-applicant from a target school myself, I can tell you that the recruiting process involves a lot of luck and many things you have no control over, so unfortunately even the most stellar resume won't guarantee an offer. It's very common to see completely different outcomes with different firms during the recruiting process, so don't let this dissuade you too much, and keep up your hard work!

Don't get disheartened. You can reach out to HR and also apply to other firms meanwhile.

Thanks
