McK Rejection

I'd applied for Junior Associate. However, I received a rejection email which included the below statements:
"A decision such as this is always difficult to make, as it requires us to choose from a group of highly qualified and accomplished individuals, such as yourself.

For reference, this evaluation and decision was made after a full global review and is applicable across all geographies for this position. Despite this decision, we would like to keep your information on file for possible opportunities with us in the future.  If you are not interested, please feel free to let us know."

Does McK include this line politely for all rejection emails? Do they really contact for future opportunities if they see a different more suitable role for the person?  Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

Yes, it's a sort of typical email.

And yes, they do keep your profile, but usually they have so many applications for new roles that they only rarely reach within their existing database.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out. Just continue applying, get better and you'll eventually get an offer.

Best,
Cristian

Does McK include this line politely for all rejection emails?

Yep, this is a standard email.

Do they really contact for future opportunities if they see a different more suitable role for the person?

I guess it can happen (I once got a job at another firm from a similar situation). But this is really an exception. It is highly unlikely.

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear you were rejected. This is a fairly standard rejection email. While it is possible that they could really contact you for future opportunities if a suitable role shows up, I wouldn't bank on it simply due to the huge volume of applications that they receive, it doesn't make sense for them to be reaching out to individual candidates too (particularly if you were rejected at the application stage and not later in the interview rounds).

Don't be too dejected, rejections happen to everyone. Keep applying to other firms - and if you are interested in working for McK, wait out the ban period and apply again. You should be the one taking the initiative, rather than waiting for them to reach out to you.

Hi there,

I'm sorry about the rejection.

If it makes you feel any better you are in the company of 95% of others.

This is indeed just a “generic” email.

My strong advice is:

  1. Network with a ton of other firms
  2. Pay for a professional review of your resume
  3. Apply to a ton of other companies

Here's some really important reading to maximize your chances for the other applications (internship and fulltime advice is the same): https://www.preplounge.com/en/articles/how-to-get-a-consulting-internship-tips-and-tricks

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the rejection. In terms of your question:

Q: Does McK include this line politely for all rejection emails? Do they really contact for future opportunities if they see a different more suitable role for the person?

This is the standard rejection email. That sentence is mainly to be polite, so they most likely won’t reach out to you if you don't apply again.

Best,

Francesco
