MBB blacklisting?

I recently got rejected after MBB interviews, and I think it’s partly because I said something to the interviewer that contradicted the documents in my application.

They probably assumed I lied to them, when really it was the result of a contextual misunderstanding that could have been easily explained had they asked me about it.

I am worried I will get permanently blacklisted, due to them possibly interpreting that as an ethical concern.

Is any such situation possible?

Hi there,

You said this is “partly” because of the miscommunication. If there were other issues in terms of your performance, you might have simply been rejected due to them.

It is difficult to provide proper suggestions without knowing what the suspected ethical point is, but as a first step, you might want to check with HR if they have any feedback on your performance.

Good luck!

Hi there!

Honestly, it's difficult to tell based on the information you provided. Can you tell us a bit more?

My sense is that it's unlikely you got rejected about that. The interviewer is only meant to assess your performance. HR is in charge of ensuring that what you claim on the CV is actually true. So at most it's something they would've highlighted to HR.

My recommendation would be to reach out to them and ask for some feedback. That would be a good starting point to figuring out what happened.

Needless to say, in future applications make sure you clarify these things in your CV

Best of luck!

Cristian

Hi,

Is it possible? Many things are possible.. but it's hard to really tell without more specifics as to what happened.

What I would do if I were you is 2 things

  1.  Ask for feedback as to the reason why you were rejected. HRs response could indicate and validate your hunch, but reality is that the firm can also choose not to disclose the real reason
  2. If you have network in the firm, this is the most realiable way of getting some insight as to the real reason you were rejected

All the best!

Hi there,

I'm really sorry to hear about this!

Could you please confirm what, exactly, you said to the interviewer? And, in turn, how they reacted? (What they said and did?)

It's very important we understand more context here to better understand….

I *think* it's unlikely, but I'd need more information.

If the interviewer finds a discrepancy, in general, will confront you and ask you about it. In general it is also unlikely that you are blacklisted - but this really depends on what we are talking about.

Can you be more specific on the source of discrepancy?

Hard to judge based on your brief overview. Did the interviewer confront you about a perceived discrepancy regarding your CV?

I have heard of people getting blacklisted for not respecting the ban period of 12-18 months after an unsuccessful application. But something about the CV without seeking additional clarification first seems a bit drastic.

As it has been suggested, you should ask for feedback from HR. It will be high level and vague at best but might give you a pointer.

Good luck
