Let's say HR reaches the candidate for an interview invitation via phone call. Would HR ask any kind of question that needs to be prepared?

Hi Ganesh,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • These types of phone calls are typically used for aligning on the interview process, so you would not have to prepare anything. However, if you want to know for certain, I would advise you to clarify upfront with the recruiter.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi Ganesh,

No - usually, these calls are more about the logistics of the process and the interviews.

If you want to be prepared for any consulting recruiting interaction, however, it always makes sense to have answers ready for:

  • Tell me about yourself
  • Why consulting
  • Why our firm
  • How can you add value to the role/practice/firm

Also, you might prepare 2-3 questions that can help you beforehand.

Cheers,

Florian

Do you mean the questions you mentioned can be asked by HR or asked during the main interview (post interview invite) only?

Hi Ganesh,

Q: Would HR ask any kind of question that needs to be prepared?

Usually calls with HR include:

  1. Alignment on the next steps of the process and/or
  2. Fit-only interview

If the call involves fit questions, I would recommend preparing for them. You can find some of the most common below:

  1. Tell me about yourself
  2. Why consulting
  3. Why our company
  4. Give me an example of when you led a team
  5. Tell me about a time when you had to convince someone
  6. What has been your major achievement so far
  7. Tell me about a time when you failed
  8. Why should we hire you

If you are unsure about what the call will involve, you can reach out to HR for clarification.

Good luck!

Francesco
