Interview: Mckinsey or BCG

Hi,

I’m currently interviewing for two roles: McKinsey Delivery Consultant – Public Sector, and BCG Experienced Hire.

From what I understand, McKinsey Delivery focuses more on implementation, pays less than strategy roles, and may have fewer exit opportunities. BCG seems to be a general strategy role.

With around 5 years of experience, which one do you think is better for me? Both would be based in Riyadh.

Also, is it a smart move to accept both offers (if I get them), stay one year at one firm, then switch to the other? A friend said this helps the CV and gives access to both alumni networks—but it sounds a bit risky. What’s your take?

Thanks!

I think you hit the nail on the head. Unless you’re particularly focused on learning implementation skills, a generalist BCG Experienced Hire role will pay more and probably give you more access to top-of-house management strategy projects.

I think it’s very risky and also a bit unethical to accept both offers - there should be small text in the contracts which forbids this. Also if a recruiter from one firm sees that you’ve accepted an offer at the other, they’ll likely rescind the offer they gave you. There’s no real advantage to accepting both offers and switching after a year anyway, from a CV perspective.
