What action-plan should one take, and what resources are best for practice?

Additionally, what is the importance of the test in the recruiting process. Is it a pass/fail?

Hi there,

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • Generally speaking, the BCG Pymetrics will be a mix of the McKinsey Solve (i.e., the form of games) and the psychometric personality test of Bain’s Sova pre-interview assessment (i.e., assessing personality traits). You will be required to play different games that focus on different personality traits to test your cultural fit.
  • As to how it is assessed, it really depends on the region, country, and office you applied to. In some cases, your BCG Pymetrics score will be assessed jointly with the first-round interviews, in other cases, it is a separate step. Since it is a formal assessment, there is a chance that you might fail the BCG Pymetrics. However, nobody knows for certain whether you need to pass a specific threshold or if there is a more flexible target to aim for.
  • Therefore, I would advise you to familiarize yourself with the format and types of games, and utilize any practice materials or mock tests that might be available. Since it is in the form of games, it might also make sense to practice playing games that are similar to the ones in the BCG Pymetrics.
  • Moreover, since the BCG Pymetrics tests your cultural fit by assessing personality traits, I would advise you to carefully consider the personality traits being tested and how they would be desirable in a (BCG) consultant. This might guide you in answering the questions.
  • Lastly, I would advise you to stay calm, confident, and well-rested on the day of the test and take your time to read through the instructions and questions before submitting your answers. Please also keep in mind the company's official website for any additional information.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

Remember there are heaps of prior Q&A on this! For example:

https://www.preplounge.com/en/consulting-forum/bcg-pymetric-interview-14517

To prepare for the BCG Pymetrics test, technically you can focus on developing and improving soft skills like ognitive flexibility, attention to detail, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence.

You  can practice playing online games that are similar to the format and structure of the test, of which there are many resources online.

It's not a pass/fail test so much as an assessment  of your fit with the company's culture and values. But, like with anything these companies send you, make sure you're putting your best foot forward (any interaction is, at the end of the, evaluated in some sense of the word).
