How to accelerate recruitment process?

I have to accept a grad school offer by a certain date later in the year, so I need to finish the recruitment process at different MBB firms before then.

Is there any way to ensure a quick recruitment process, or any way to speed it up? Particularly talking about not having long wait times scheduling interviews.

Hi there,

Q: Is there any way to ensure a quick recruitment process, or any way to speed it up?

The main method I saw for expediting the process is to leverage another offer. If that's the case, you can contact HR, mention the alternative offer, and ask if they can expedite the scheduling of the interviews.

Ideally, this works if you have offers from competitors, but in your case, you might want to consider using the grad school offer if you cannot secure any consulting offers before the grad school deadline.

Good luck!

Hi there!

Yes - aim to get an interview at one firm early on.

Then tell all the other firms that have invited you to interview that you've already had the first round with another firm and ask them if you could re-schedule the interview with them for earlier.

Even better, see if you can get an offer earlier on - even if it's a firm that you are not interested in - then informal all the other firms you're applying to and tell them that you'd want to interview with them before you need to respond to the offer.

Most firms are quite flexible with this so it's absolutely worth trying.

Best of luck!

Hi,

Firms will typically speed up the recruitment process if they feel that

  1. You are an exceptionally strong candidate
  2. You are at threat of going to a competitor

For #1 - make sure your application is strong.

For #2, the moment you get an interview with a top firm, use that as leverage to try and speed up the process with the other firms. Do note that your leverage does not need to be MBB, i've seen recruiters speed up interviews when candidates had offers from IB/PE etc.

All the best!

Hi there,

You can essentially tell them you have another pending offer but that they are your top choice. If they can move forward your interview you would greatly appreciate it.

Don't hold your breath though - they might or they might not.

Please make sure that you are also ready for an accelerated interview (i.e. you're case ready)!

Hi there,

you can tell them that you have another offer (since you have a grad school offer) but that you would still like to interview with them. You can remain vague here and don't have to spell out that it is not an offer from another consulting firm - not that it would really matter who ultimately “snatches you away”. If they explicitly ask, however, I would not lie in case you end up taking the grad school offer and still want to apply to the consulting firm(s) after graduation.

I would say that is your best attempt to expedite the matter. There is not really a way “to ensure” a quick recruitment process. You will always be at the mercy of the recruiters and the timelines they deem feasible.

Best of luck
