How does the evaluation process goes after final round?

Hello everyone,

I finished the final round with BCG Dubai last Thursday and still haven't heard back. The HR said they are still discussing internally and I am wondering:

1) How does the evaluation process goes? ME offices seem to process everything really slow this year.

2) Does my performance in the first round still count?

3) Are they comparing different candidates before giving out an offer? But my friend who applied the same position as me got rejected 3 weeks after his final round, one day before my final round.

Really appreciate if anyone could provide some insights on this!!

Hi there,

here a few thoughts from my experience as interviewer in the ME:

1. How does the Eval process go: final round interviewers will submit their scores and typically have an alignment to come to a consensus decision (which can take time to decide, especially if interviewers are very senior). In general, process speed in ME offices is known to be not the fastest, compared to certain other regions, given high applicant volumes, the specifics of the process and and certain cultural nuances there.

2. Does your R1 performance count? Yes, the firm looks at your performance holistically, especially true for borderline candidates. If the firm is unsure about Yes/No, they would typically will ask for an additional final interview (often referred to as “3rd look”) to get clarity. Happens quite often.

3. Are they comparing different candidates? Generally speaking, especially true in high growth regions like the ME, if the firms believes you meet the absolute threshold, you will typically receive an offer, irrespective of how other candidates do. That said, if you interview for more senior roles (typically PL upwards) and/or specific practice areas, the more the firm needs to keep specific HC targets in mind, especially in the current market environment. In such case, comparison of candidates becomes much more of a topic - I had 2 such cases very recently, where both candidates ended up getting the offer at ehe end (1 in ME, 1 in SEA).

Hope this clarifies - feel free to reach out, if you'd like to learn more.

Regards, Andi

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on passing all interview rounds with BCG Dubai!

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • The evaluation process after the final round typically involves a debriefing session where the interviewers discuss your performance. The process can take some time, especially if there are scheduling conflicts among the interviewers.
  • Your performance in the first round does count, but it is typically weighed less heavily than your performance in the final round. I would advise you not to worry since you passed the first round of interviews regardless.
  • Yes, BCG is likely comparing the performance of different candidates before making a final decision. This is done to ensure that the best candidates are selected.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hello!

Also from BCG here. Based on my personal experience:

1) there will be a decision meeting in which all interviewers (from 1st round + final) and HRs will talk through all candidates who made it to final round. This meeting could sometimes be postponed given the schedules of partners (MDPs) are quite volatile.

2) Yes. Your interviewers from 1st round will chip in and either back for you or go against you given your performance then. However, given that you had made it to the final round I will say your 1st round performance should be pretty solid. Also, the final round interviewers (who are usually MDPs) have a lot of say on offer decisions. Your 1st round performance usually will be discussed again if your final round performance is at borderline.

3) Yes, they will compare all candidates in a meeting as I stated in 1). The situation for your friend could be: (a. his final round interviewers made immediate call that his performance did not reach the bar and ask HR to take him out (b. you are actually in different “pools” despite you applied to the same position around same timeline. meaning there are seperate “decision meetings” for applicant in your round.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reach out if you have further questions.

It can take up to a few weeks for them to give you an answer. Your performance in every interview counts. They will look at everything before a final decision.

Regarding comparing candidates… they will not compare every single candidate against each other… they recruit on a revolving basis, not as a batch. Having said this, they may compare a few that interviewed around the same time, if they are on the fence, but that doesn't mean that they can't give offers to all of them… or none of them.

Hi there,

the typical process is that there is an internal review meeting between HR and the interviewers who saw the candidates in the final round. Each candidate gets discussed and it is determined whether or not an offer should be extended to that person. It also provides the platform for interviewers who have interviewed the same candidate to have a discussion.

Since such meetings often involve partners, it can be tricky to find slots on the schedules for everyone to be able to attend. Therefore, the might be some delays before you hear back. Especially since we see an overall slowdown in hiring, they might also be waiting for a few “batches” of final rounds to get through to better determine who to extend their limited offers to (but that is just speculation).

In this context, the first round performance could be considered as some tie breaker but it is often water under the bridge. Your first round performance was good enough to get you to the final round, now the performance in the final round matters the most.

Official communication to the candidates is typically not made before there has not been an internal alignment between HR and the interviewers.

Fingers crossed that you receive positive news

Hi there,

Here's what's happening.

You are stressed/anxious and therefore trying to get some control of the situation.

You can't.

Your fate is in their hands and there is nothing you can do at this point.

What can you do? Stop worrying! Focus on things you can control! Such as networking with and applying to other firms .

The answers to your questions change nothing at all nd give you no control (though the other coaches are right in their answers) - please spend your time, energy, and effort on things that actually matter :)

Hello,

Here are my thoughts from personal experience:

1) It is possible that they are not considering to give you an offer. What I have seen is offerees get a call very soon (24-48 hours) after the final rounds, whereas rejects could happen maybe a few days later.

2) It is also possible that they may compare two candidates who have performed similarly. However, ideally if you have performed their minimum criteria, then you should be safe.

3) If I were you, I wouldn't be too optimistic. Perhaps follow up with HR after a couple of days.

All the best!

Rushabh
