GMAT/Conceptual Questions in MBB Case Interviews?

Hello,

Will there be questions (especially in partner rounds) like them saying a bunch of algebra (e.g. unit A is 30% larger than the sum of units B and C) but more complex? Because I feel like prepping for this is way different than just doing normal case maths

Thanks

There might not be "algebra questions" per se, but some cases can have quite complex math that is similar to GMAT questions (not the majority of cases though). Hence I think it would still be beneficial to do some complex math questions from GMAT as it is helpful for complex math case questions.

hey!

I would say yes, especially in partner or final rounds, it's common to get more conceptual, GMAT-style math, not just basic case calculations. They might test your ability to quickly interpret layered quantitative relationships (like ratios, relative sizes, or combined percentages) in a business context. It's less about raw math and more about logical structuring under pressure. To prep, focus on mental math, algebraic thinking, and interpreting complex quantitative setups — GMAT problem-solving and data sufficiency can help.

Hi,

It is very rare cases when Partners would give you algebra questions. Most likely they would just give normal case maths, and Partner round math is usually simpler than the previous rounds.

Partners are super busy with a lot of stressful, high stake meetings with clients day in and day out. Interview is one of the limited opportunities during the day that they can actually relax a bit - they wouldn't want to make their life difficult either. They are also just human beings.

Hi,

It may happen, but it’s not usual. Focus on being able to solve regular case math, interpreting charts, graphs and tables and being able to do your calculations accurately and efficiently. That’s a way better usage of your time.

Best,

Mari
