2) for Sr level hiring, “technical round” happens or no?

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from Deloitte!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, I would highly advise you to reach out to the recruiter immediately to get clarity on the specific formats. While I'm happy to share my perspective, the recruiter will be the only person to actually know the contents of the interviews.
  • Moreover, for the technical round, I would advise you to brush up on your data analytics skills since you're applying for that practice. Make sure you're comfortable with common industry tools and methodologies.
  • Lastly, it's important to understand that at a senior level, the "technical" aspect may also include more sharing your thought process and how you approach problem-solving, so be prepared to discuss your past projects and how you navigated technical challenges.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming Deloitte interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi!

For both of these questions you should get as much info as you can from HR.

If you've already done this, technical interviews basically aim to assess the technical knowledge that's expected from your role.

Look at what are the expectations from the role in the job description and then try to think of what technical terms you should know and what sort of skills you should exhibit.

Depending on the role that you're going for (some are more ‘technical' than others e.g., requiring coding), you might be expected to exhibit these skills and experiences through stories or problem sets.

I've worked with a few candidates on technical interviews so happy to support as needed.

Good luck!
Cristian

Hi there,

Generally, the technical round is just that - technical!

So, this may be a live discussion around technical topics (deep-diving, getting your thoughts, brainstorming, etc.) AND/OR it might be an actual hard skills assessment.

For example, when interviewing with Quantium (data analytics consulting shop) I had an hour at the interview site to work through SQL code and create a mini database + code SQL queries to create charts/graphs.

Make sure you're ready for both scenarios, and, importantly, it doesn't hurt to double check with HR on what to expect!

Let me address your questions:

To prepare for the upcoming "technical" round, it's important to focus on building your knowledge and skills in the specific area relevant to the role you're applying for. Research the industry, trends, and challenges, and familiarize yourself with the key concepts and frameworks commonly used in that field. Additionally, review any technical skills or tools that are mentioned in the job description or that are commonly used in the industry. Practice solving case studies or hypothetical business problems to sharpen your analytical and problem-solving abilities. Finally, be prepared to discuss your previous experiences and how they demonstrate your technical expertise.

For senior-level hiring, it's common to have a "technical round" to assess your depth of knowledge and expertise in the specific area. This round may involve more in-depth discussions and questions related to your industry experience, technical skills, and ability to handle complex business challenges. It's important to showcase your expertise and demonstrate your ability to think strategically and provide valuable insights.

I hope this guidance helps you in your preparation. Good luck with your upcoming rounds!
