Could anybody help to have a look at my CV? I am going to apply for the CA role at McKinsey

Dear consultants and tutors,

I have years of working experience as a CO-founder of an F&B start-up. I also graduated from EY Consulting after 4 months as a trainee and currently, I am a Case Team Assistant (CTA) at BCG

I am going to apply again for the Consulting Analyst position at McKinsey Vietnam.

Could anyone kindly help me to read through my CV and give me some feedback?

I will greatly appreciate your help!

Many thanks,

Hi David,

Q: Could anyone kindly help me to read through my CV and give me some feedback?

Many coaches offer a CV review as part of their coaching. You can check if there is an option for that on their profiles here.

For general CV suggestions, you can check this:

▶ How to Craft a Great CV for Consulting

The process I personally use during the session is the following:

  1. You send me your CV before the class
  2. We review it together during the class. I recommend the changes to do step by step
  3. You work on the recommended improvements after the class and adapt the doc accordingly
  4. You send me back the CV. I review it and provide suggestions on anything needed more (no additional bookings needed)
  5. You review and change them accordingly
  6. If needed you send them back as long as needed (no follow-up limit)

All the steps are included in the initial booking, including the unlimited follow-ups.

If you prefer, we can also do a full session and work on the Cover Letter and all the steps needed to get referrals as well.

If you have additional questions please feel free to PM me.

Best,

Francesco

McKinsey & Company | Currently offering 1 free coaching session| Happy to PARTNER with you to get an offer from MBB

Hello Dear,

I hope you are doing well.

Following 3 general advices

1) No photos

2) Keep CV synthetic and schematic, maximum 1 page

3) Refer to your past experiences starting to the most recent one. In the description focus on giving importance to activities/projects you did that underline the main skills required in a consulting job (e.g., good communication, problem solving).

I am currently offering CV review services + support in business case preparation.

In particular I am offering a package with 1 free coaching session

Feel free to reach out me. Good luck!

Thanks,

Matteo

Hi David,

Feel free to send me your CV.

A few tips for a good CV:

  • Your resume should be very standard: no colors, no photos, and nothing too fancy.
  • Put at the top of your application whether you're looking for an internship or a full-time position.
  • If you're a recent graduate, list your educational experiences first, followed by your professional experiences. If you have several years of professional experience, choose the reverse order.
  • For each of your experiences, include a quantifiable result.
    • Examples: GPA, degree (e.g. master's, specialized master's, PhD), annual average, final grade on your thesis, revenue and growth impact if you worked in sales, number of projects you worked on, awards received in competitions, etc.
  • Rules to follow:
    • 1 bullet point = 1 sentence = 1 idea
    • Use the same number of bullet points per experience. To be super clear: don't have 5 lines for one experience and 2 for another. Always the same number. 4 is good.
  • No spelling mistakes are tolerated, everything must be well-aligned, clean, and squared.
    • Have your resume proofread at the end by several people for spelling mistakes. If you can have it proofread by friends who are preparing for consulting firms, even better.
  • If you want to join McKinsey, I recommend having an "Extracurricular activities" section in your resume, where you can detail your involvement in associations, projects you've successfully completed, hackathons or competitions you've participated in. Highlight the result of each of these experiences.
  • Don't forget to specify in a final section the level of languages you speak, your knowledge of certain consulting tools (PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) and potentially your knowledge of programming languages (SQL, HTML, CSS, etc.).
  • Make sure to name the file "CV FirstName LastName".
  • Everything should be in English.
