Hi there,

Q:  I wanted to ask about McKinsey hiring medical students and specifically in the Middle East area.

Consulting companies do hire medical students. Having said that, I would try to extend the list of companies, as focusing on only one would be risky.

You might want to check the following companies covering life science/healthcare projects:

  • MBB
  • ZS Associates
  • LEK
  • IQVIA
  • ClearView
  • Putnam

Good luck!

Hi!

MDs are actually an attractive profile for consulting firms and McK might have one of the strongest intakes from this particular industry.

And yes, ME is hiring at the moment - I have a few candidates interviewing for roles in the region.

Sharing with you a guide on how to put together an application strategy:

Good luck!

Hi there,

To your questions:

  • ME hiring is hot right now, so good moment to apply to consulting on the region
  • I've met several colleagues at McKinsey with medical background in different regions, so yes, these profiles are very attractive for McKinsey

Best,

Alberto

Hi there, hiring in ME is strong currently. I coach just now a medical expert for AP level at McKinsey Dubai office (also from US), happy to put you both in touch. Ping me a DM, warm regards, Freddy

Hi,

many consulting firms in ME are still recruiting/hiring currently including MBB and Tier 2.

While a medical degree is not the typical background to enter consulting with, it is certainly not uncommon. The best shot (because of the most apparent value proposition) is to apply to companies who are very active in the healthcare and pharma space.

You should try to get in touch with employees/partners from these practices at the respective consulting companies for some “informal” introductory chats to gauge interest and get some pointers - ideally internal referrals.

Definitely don't just focus on McK but apply to broader set of companies if a career in consulting is the declared goal. It's all a numbers game in a sense so you should try to increase your chances.

Best of luck

Hello! It's great to hear that your husband is considering a job opportunity in the Middle East. Regarding your question about McKinsey hiring medical students in the Middle East, I can provide some insights.

While McKinsey primarily hires candidates with a business or consulting background, they do occasionally consider candidates from diverse academic backgrounds, including medical students. However, it's important to note that the demand for medical students in consulting roles may vary depending on the specific needs of the Middle East offices.

To explore potential opportunities, I would recommend reaching out to the McKinsey recruiters in the Middle East directly. They will be able to provide you with the most up-to-date information on their hiring practices and any specific requirements or preferences they may have.

Additionally, it could be beneficial to leverage your medical background as a unique selling point during the application process.

Hi,

It's possible to get hired by MBB with a non-traditional background, but it will require more work on the candidate's part, for sure.

Also, make sure to target not only McK, but other Tier1, Tier2 and even Tier3 companies. The salary discrepancy is not so dramatic in this region among these firms.

To get a better understanding of the management consulting market in the region you can look up the 2023 management companies' ranking put together by the portal called consultancy-me.com

Good luck!
Nick
