Hi all,

Very happy to have an offer that includes base comp and sign on bonus that I am content with. I was wondering if there is any chance i could ask for relocation bonus/costs covered given I have to move across the world for the job.

For some context its an entry level consultant role (undergrad) at a T2, and I specifically applied to this location.

Any advice on whether this is possible and how to go about it would be really appreciated.

Thanks!!

Hey there

Firstly, congratulations on your offer!

As someone who received a relocation bonus (in form of a 1 time joining bonus), I would encourage you to definitely ask for it!

In fact as recommended by Cristian, you should make an estimate of your relocation costs and arrive at a number before you head into the conversation.

Do be aware though that the bonus is subject to individual office's policies!

Best of luck!

Hi there,

Congratulations on the offer! Regarding your question:

Q: I was wondering if there is any chance I could ask for relocation bonus/costs covered given I have to move across the world for the job.

Given you have actual costs of relocation, it is fine to ask. They might or might not offer it, depending on the company/office policy.

Good luck!

Francesco

Yes.

I'd do 2 things.

1. Reach out to consultants from that office who also had to relocate and try to understand if the office typically offers a relocation bonus.

2. Do a fair estimate on your side of what the costs are for the relocation.

Once you have clarity over these two things, then have the discussion with the recruiter.

If you need more help on how to position this the right way, do reach out.

Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

Relocation bonus is a fair thing to ask specially if the firm has been aware that you would need to relocate since the beginning of the recruiting process.

Work your numbers to estimate relocation costs. Be transparent on them when you ask for the relocation bonus.

Good luck!

Alberto

Hi,

congratulations on the offer. You should definitely ask for a relocation bonus - anything you can get there is better than nothing - even if it is just the company covering your flight costs.

But these discussions need to be had before you sign the contract obviously. Once you sign, the deal is done.

Good luck

Yes, it is perfectly fine to ask for that. And it is quite straighforward. You explain why you need it (as you did here… you need to move across the world, find a place, etc.), and are asking if this is something they would be willing to suppost.

You should do this BEFORE you sign the offer.
