Bain interviewer training

I see Bain has even junior consultants interviewing. Why is that? Do they get the same degree of interviewer training as an engagement manager would?

Hello,

Yep, the interviewer training is the same for all interviewers.

Regarding why they have junior consultants interviewing - junior consultants typically interview at earlier rounds, and they are able to evaluate candidates since they have had the appropriate training and were successful in the case process themselves. Case interviews are a very distinct and specialized process, so you do not necessarily need to be a good/experienced consultant to be good at case interviews (as you will discover once you start working in consulting, real-life cases are very different from interview cases!).

Hey there,

I can answer this only from a McK perspective but my guess is that this is similar at Bain.

You see the same happening at McK and the training is exactly the same as you want an objective and standardized application and interview process.

Cheers,

Florian

Yes, it's the same. The difference is that as a Manager you have more:

  1. Interviewing experience
  2. Team leading experience (including evaluating people)
  3. Project experience (which means you understand how consultants think and how is project work organized)

Of course they would! Bain has an incentive to make sure their interviews are standardized and impartial.

Now, do the more junior people have more experience interviewing? Of course not! Can this affect their style etc., absolutely! But is the training the “same”? Yes :)
