Applying to BCG Singapore

Hi Everyone!

I am catering my cover letter, and was wondering if there are certain areas to consider, when you go on to say “Why a particular location? ”

Why Singapore office? Professional reasons to justify the location preference. Any tips on types of projects, must areas to include in the cover letter.

I come with few years of consulting experience in a Tier 2 firm, Australian educational background and grew up in South East Asia. I will need sponsorship for work permit as well.

IS BCG Singapore currently open to foreigners given Covid restrictions ?

Cheers!

Personally, I embed the “Why BCG” and “Why office” within my cover letter. As in, they're not specific paragraphs.

Rather, I write paragraphs regarding my key skills/strengths and why I'm a suitable candidate.

If you do want to say why Singapore, ideally tie it back to you. So, you've spent x years there, worked on x number of projects there, are interested and have worked in x industry where they also focus, you like to work with x type of people because you are x type of worker (passionate, penchant for learning, curiosity-driven, etc.)

Hi!

I would talk to HR before applying. If there are some restrictions in place you might be rejected!

Hope this helps.

Best,

I am with Ian here. The best approach is to tie the “why the company” with “why the location”, assuming there are reasons to want to work for BGC there that are tied to the location.

If the reasons are personal, you should not mention them in the cover letter, as you may be misinterpreted, i.e., it may sound as if you are applying to BCG specifically because you want to work in Singapore (and not necessarily for BCG). So that is a question that is better addressed during the interview than in the cover letter.

Regarding specific reasons, you may want to work in Singapore because it is a regional “hub”, so you may get to work in the most exciting projects in the region.

Whether or not you can apply - is best answered by BCG SG HR. You should check with them directly and give them full details of your profile.

Why Singapore and why BCG - should typically be answered in the same breath. You can focus on aspects like the culture, the sector focus, logical flow to your career etc.

Happy to take a look at your profile and help you chart out a good answer - I have had 3-4 coachees for BCG SEA/SG in 2021.

Hello,

Definitely check with HR about whether BCG Singapore is taking applications from foreigners. As to “why X office?” do some research on what kind of projects they do, talk to some consultants who work at the office, and ideally you should be able to pin down some factors that appeal to you.
