Application Status on McKinsey Portal - Closed

Hi,

I had appeared for my Final Round of interviews for Capabilities & Insights Analyst at McKinsey India, 2 weeks back. When I contacted HR for the results (as I had another offer at hand, joining intimation was to be given to the other firm), I was told that the calibration call is taking time as the team is busy with end-year deliverables.

Meanwhile, the application status was showing ‘Under Process’. Today the application status is showing ‘Closed’.

Should I consider myself rejected from the process?

PS - The entire process took 5 months and all of my rounds went very well except for the final round. It would be very disappointing getting a rejection after investing such long time.

Hello,

I would definitely reach out to HR and ask to get some clarity on what happened!

Hi Ashik,

The honest answer is that we do not know.

That said, if they weren't rushing to grab you when you said you had a competing offer, and the portal now says closed, I would say it doesn't sound great.

Wait until they respond (and feel free to call as well), but certainly make sure to keep the offer from that other firm around.

Oh dear - while I admit that this doesn't seem promising my advice is always to reach out to HR. Until they've spoken with you it's very hard to try to understand what the portals mean. Good luck!

Hi there,

Q: Should I consider myself rejected from the process?

It doesn’t sound promising but I would reach out to HR to ask if they have any feedback given the update, they should be able to clarify.

Fingers crossed for you!

Hi there,

The only way to figure this out with 100% certainty is to reach out directly to your contact in the firm and call (!) them directly to ask.

Fingers crossed that it is just an administrative blunder!

Cheers,

Florian

While it likely means that you're not going to have an offer, you should double check with HR. Candidates ALWAYS get a response (or at least that's what they aim for). So if you didn't get yours, something went wrong in the communication process and don't assume immediately that it is because the answer is negative.
