Work at MBB

Hi, does anyone know if MBB consultants have started going back to the office or are they still wfh? Just curious as I will be joining them soon and was wondering if I need to purchase all the stuff that is needed (clothes, bags) ASAP or if I can do that later.

Hi there, depends on location, project, client, etc. Some folks are still 100% remote, others 100% on-site (and some others in between…).

For the purpose of your question, I would prepare for working on site.

Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Prepare to be onsite for 2-3 days a week at least. There are very few scenarios that will be 100% remote.

It depends on the office, case/client and your role. I know some of the geography are almost back to normal as USA, Germany, while other significantly less. I for example work on cases out of Europe and work 100% remote since Feb 2019…

It is very much on a case by case basis. When travel/on-site work does happen though, it will be due to client or team requirements and therefore will happen pretty much immediately so you won't get alot of notice to purchase the things you need.

See these items as long term investments and get them up front. They will be useful for you in the first few years of your career regardless of whether you are on site for your first project or not.

It really depends.  It never hurts to be ready!

When I was a new joining BA, a senior partner gave me the advice - “always be ready, you never know when a client calls”.

Hello!

Yes, travel has resumed. Not as crazy as before, but has resumed, even if it´s just to be collocated with your team.

Cheers,

Short answer: buy the things you need now.

By the time you are told you need to travel, you won't have time to properly get what you need.

Trust me when I say that is the last thing you'll want to do when you have to also book flights, get ramped up on the client intro deck, learn their industry, etc.

Travel to client sites is getting much more common as we reach endemic stage of covid.

Hi there,

Congratulations on the offer!

It depends on the office. In several countries you have at least part of the week at the client’s office.

I agree with the other comments that it makes sense to buy what you need now – eventually you will need it anyway.

In terms of what to buy and how to prepare, you can find some tips here:

Hi there,

It really depends from project to project. Some decide to work remotely still, other to work at the client, but the majority follow a mixed approach.

If I were you I'd be ready to travel once I start anyway. So do get your essential to be ready for when the time comes. It's a certainty that you will need to get to the client, whether it's in one week or in six weeks from now matters less.

Best,

Cristian

Hello, congratulations on the offer! Excellent stuff :)

Whether to WFH or not will be decided for each project, depending on the client and the team contrext. That said, the norm is once again to work from the office/client.

So my advice to you: buy everything you need to support a work from office/client arrangement. The last thing you want is to be stuck without the right clothes and items when you are suddenly invited to the project of your dreams!

Yes - travel has definitely started again. It is not at the same intensity as before because the clients themselves aren't back in the office or are hybrid, but it is back for sure.

Hey there,

You definitely should buy it now, regardless if you travel or not. Once you start working, either from home or traveling every week, you want to enjoy your precious and little free time on something else than shopping. :-))

That being said, most of the work in Europe is back to the 4/1 travel lifestyle.

Cheers,

Florian
