McK Application - No response

Hi community,

I submitted my application to Associate (non campus) role in the US around 3 weeks and have not heard an update. I am wondering is this usual for experienced hire cases? What is a typical timeline looking like?

Thanks!

Hi there,

Yes, it's quite normal not to hear back within a few weeks—especially for experienced hire roles. Unlike campus recruiting, which tends to follow a structured timeline, off-cycle and experienced hire processes can vary significantly depending on business needs, office location, and role demand.

Three weeks without an update doesn’t necessarily signal a rejection. Some candidates hear back within a couple of weeks, while for others, it can take over a month. If you haven’t already, you could consider reaching out to the recruiting contact listed in your application or the general careers inbox for a quick check-in.

Wishing you the best of luck with your application!

Hey,

It can take some time, depending on the location and market conditions (which are not amazing at the moment).

I’ve heard of people interviewing in 2 weeks and others being invited to interview 6-8 weeks later, so there’s a real range.

I’d recommend reaching out to the recruiting team in your target office to check.

Hello,

Timeline varies depending on office’s needs and ability to process/evaluate all the applications. Feel free to reach out to HR if you haven’t yet.

Best,

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, there is no set timeframe for processing applications, although most applicants receive a response within two to four weeks of submitting their application.
  • Moreover, and contrary to what other coaches have said, while you may certainly follow up with the recruiter and inquire about the status of your application, this will neither help your candidacy nor expedite the process. Instead, I would strongly advise you to focus on preparing and applying to other consulting firms to maximize your chances of success.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming (McKinsey) pre-interview assessments and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hey there :)

Yes, that’s quite normal for experienced hire applications at McKinsey. The process can take longer than campus recruiting, sometimes 4–6 weeks or more, depending on the office and role. If you haven’t heard back after a month, it’s totally fine to follow up with recruiting just to check in.

Let me know if you want help with the follow-up note!

Best,
Alessa :)

Hi there!

It's slightly long but not unusual. Give it another week and then follow-up politely with the recruiter.

I hope you get good news soon.

In the meantime, to diversify your risk, it might make sense to start applying to other places as well.

Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

The waiting time could range from a few days to several weeks, it depends on the office, role and recruiting pipeline. Thus this is not necessarily unusual.

If you want to get an update, you can call the office and say you wanted confirmation they received your application, as you have not heard back – this could work as a gentle follow-up.

Good luck!

Francesco
