BCG EH - Timeline and Status

I applied for BCG Experience hire role in the first week of April. I haven’t received any update from the recruiters until now.

A couple of days ago I saw the status of my application change from “Application Submitted” to “Application Under Review”.

What is generally the timeline that can be expected from this stage onwards? Further, is there a way for me to convince the recruiters to accelerate the timeline?

This can really vary. I can give you two of my experiences:

  • Mckinsey: applied in October and contacted in March (this was due to high number of applicants)
  • Kearney: applied in August and contacted in February (this was due to hiring freeze)

What you should be doing now is interview prep so that when you get the call you are ready. Please feel free to char me

Hi there,

1) What is generally the timeline that can be expected from this stage onwards?

It could range from a few days to several weeks, it depends on the office, role and recruiting pipeline.

2) Further, is there a way for me to convince the recruiters to accelerate the timeline?

The only possible way I know to speed up the process is to get another offer and call them to let them know about it.

Good luck!

Francesco

I do have another consulting offer (Top 5 firms) though that position is in the Middle East office, however the start date is not for a few months. Should I just mention this to the recruiter via email or try to call them about this?

Well done on the other offer! I would recommend calling. I did the same when I applied to MBB (I already had an offer from a Tier 2), and it worked to accelerate the process. Good luck!

It could take a few weeks to a couple of months. Best of luck!

Hi,

In addition to what was stated, a referral is a mean to accelerate the CV screening. It won’t help much now that your application is under review, but if you apply for other companies, keep that in mind.

Best,

Mari

This is a good thing - BCG is hiring more than other MBB firms these days. Is there a reason to accelerate on your end? Typically having another offer is a reason for firms to accelerate your interview process.

One thing that you are allowed to do is email a recruiter and ask.  Be polite, of course.  Don't intimate that you expect a response asap.  Just ask!

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, unfortunately, there really is no universally applicable lead time. However, the first contact can easily take 2-4 weeks.
  • Moreover, what is your reason for wanting to expedite the application process? If you have a competing offer with a deadline, I would strongly advise you to be open and honest with the BCG recruiter. They will most likely do their best to accommodate your schedule. Otherwise, I don't see any reason to put pressure on them.
  • Lastly, you can certainly follow up with the recruiter, but it won't speed up the process.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming BCG interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Unfortunately your experience is not unique - BCG can be slow on the process especially in some regions.

The only way to try and accelerate is if you reach out to recruiting / HR directly, and if they are interested in your profile they will accelerate the process.
