Your chance would probably be higher if you choose to focus on the energy sector and emphasize your expertise / experiences in Energy consulting. 

Key next steps for you would be: (1) prepare well for the case interview, to showcase that you can do structured problem solving; (2) try to do some networking with people in the energy sectors in your target firms and see how they can help you.

• First of all, it’s definitely possible to move from VC to consulting, especially if you position yourself as an energy sector expert.
• Moreover, since you plan to apply in early 2026, you have plenty of time to actively prepare your application files and reach out to the energy practices of your target consulting firms. And if I were you, I would also apply to McKinsey, BCG, and Bain, unless you have any personal reasons not to do so. As the largest consulting firms, they typically also have the highest hiring needs.

Actually, that's a well-trodden road - VC to consulting or in the other direction. 

Reach out to recruiters from the firms you're targeting and figure out whether they have openings in their Energy practice. You'll have a comparative advantage there.
