Does anyone have insights on the PEG Tech Insights Group at Bain?

I have recently applied to the  “Specialist Associate Consultant, PEG Technology Insights Group” position at Bain. However, after doing further research, most employees have a strong tech background while I have majored in Economics. I have received the Bain SOVA assessment 4 days after the application.

Does this mean I have passed the screening and everything is dependent on the test or will my CV be scrutinized alongside test results?

Also if anyone here works in this division, what exactly does the group do? Is it just PE DD for tech companies?

Hi there,

The Bain PEG TIG team does product tech diligence for tech assets, i.e. they don't do any commercial diligence for tech assets (its done by PEG CDD teams).

For the Associate Consultant level, they would usually consider people from non-tech backgrounds as you can learn on the job/ they will teach you.

Just focus on the SOVA test and the following case interviews and hope you will get an offer.

Good luck,

Lilit

Hi there,

Luckily you networked extensively with them before applying and therefore you not only have a great chance of being interviewed but you already know what the do.

Right?

:)

Please make sure to network. It's so so so important for this exact reason.

Without knowing your background, all things equal, yes, you're at a disadvantage. However, if you have an impressive background, they you of course still have a shot.

In some offices the BAin SOVA is pre-screening and in others it's post-screening.

Good luck to you!

Hi. Thank you for getting back to me, Would you know if tests for the London office are sent pre-screening or post-screening?

Hi there!

It depends on the office.

In most offices, they check just that you're suitable for the role - high-level, and if you are, then they invite you to the test.

Once you finished the test, they then do a more in-depth analysis of your profile including the test results, CV, cover letter and referral.

Screening is rather tough these days because of the economic situation, so I'd recommend that you diversify your risk and apply to multiple firms in parallel. Here's a guide on how to build this sort of approach:

Best,

Cristian

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, it seems that unfortunately, you did not do thorough research and networking within Bain’s PEG to fully understand the scope of this role. I would highly advise you to do so, and, depending on the outcome, continue with or retract the application.
  • Moreover, in most countries, the invitation for the Bain Sova pre-interview assessment is automatically sent to all applicants, and the results are assessed in conjunction with the application. Either way, the most important thing to do for you now is to find out about the specifics of the role you applied for.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen
