Consulting Firm in Operations

Hello,

I currently hold the position of Senior Consultant in Supply Chain in a little french company. I am looking to specialize in operations strategy, particularly in manufacturing and supply chain.

Aside from McKinsey's Operations Excellence Program (OEP), which I am already familiar with, could you other consulting firms that focus on this area?

Thank you!

Hello,

Here are several consulting firms that specialize in operations strategy (other than McKinsey), particularly in manufacturing and supply chain which would be very relevant to your experience:

    1.    Boston Consulting Group (BCG)
BCG focuses heavily on operations and offers specialized programs like the Operations Center, which provides expertise in manufacturing, supply chain, and operational excellence.
They also emphasize Industry 4.0 and digital supply chain transformations.
    2.    Bain & Company
Bain offers strong capabilities in supply chain management, operational efficiency, and manufacturing strategy through its Performance Improvement and Operations practices.
    3.    EY-Parthenon
EY-Parthenon specializes in supply chain strategy, procurement, and operational performance improvements. (DM me for more details on EY-P)
    4.    Roland Berger
Roland Berger has a strong focus on manufacturing and supply chain in Europe, emphasizing Industry 4.0, lean operations, and operational transformations.

Hope this is helpful!

Best,

Evelina

Hi there,

If you're looking to specialize in operations strategy, especially in manufacturing and supply chain, there are several consulting firms with strong practices in this area beyond McKinsey's Operations Excellence Program (OEP):

  1. Boston Consulting Group (BCG) – Their Industrial Goods and Operations practices focus on supply chain, manufacturing efficiency, and digital transformation in operations.
  2. Bain & Company – Bain’s Advanced Manufacturing & Services practice is highly involved in optimizing operations, including supply chain strategy, procurement, and production processes.
  3. Oliver Wyman – They have a Supply Chain & Operations practice that works on operational transformations, focusing on the manufacturing and logistics sectors.
  4. AT Kearney – Known for their strong Operations & Supply Chain expertise, especially in strategic sourcing, supply chain optimization, and manufacturing.
  5. Accenture – Offers a specialized Operations practice focusing on manufacturing and supply chain strategy, including digital solutions and advanced analytics.

These firms have extensive expertise in operations strategy and would be a great fit for someone like you looking to deepen your focus in manufacturing and supply chain.

Best of luck, and feel free to reach out for more insights!

Hey there,

In short, all the big and major consulting firms will have strong and sizeable operations practices. You may now want to think about additional considerations that are peripheral to operations focus, like the type of clients served, how the operations practice integrates with other practices etc.

For this, I recommend networking with operations consulting in all these firms other firms to understand more about them and compare and contrast

Hi,

Generally all global firms will have an operations practice. The question then becomes which firms do I stand a higher chance joining?

Given your brief description of your background - I would think the boutiques in your local area and then the T2s (Kearney, Big 4 etc) would be your first choice of options to try and break into.
