BCG ME Expert Track – Fit Advice for Climate Role?

Hi all,

I'm considering applying for the Expert Project Leader – Climate & Sustainability (Energy) role at BCG Middle East and would really appreciate feedback from those with BCG expert track or regional experience.

Here’s a quick match summary against the role:

Core RequirementMy Background
Experience in climate/sustainability (energy/O&G focus)Deep climate experience; advised 2 of top 3 O&G companies + subsidiaries
Developed national energy transition policies and plans
Deep expertise in niche climate topics
8+ years consulting + industry experience8+ years total: 5 in tier-2 consulting, 3 in core sustainability industry
Strong project management track recordCurrently leading as PM; ~8 strategy/delivery projects managed
Stakeholder/client engagement across senior levelsWorked with C-suite teams in SWF, NOCs, Investment companies, government officials.
ME regional exposureUAE/KSA based; full GCC coverage across public-private climate mandates

I'd love to:

  1. Hear whether a climate-specialized profile (vs technical energy delivery) fits well for this role.
  2. Connect indirectly with anyone close to the ME offices who could provide guidance.
  3. Ultimately work with a BCG expert coach, focused on non-case / fit preparation.

Thanks in advance—happy to DM further context if help

Hi,

Based on the general description, I think your profile definitely fits what they are looking for. A couple of thoughts

  • It's i think particularly strong because of the consulting background
    • One of the common challenges for experienced hire PLs coming from industry is the inability to operate in the consulting environment, they have deep expertise but struggle to really deliver outcomes
    • But given you have experience in T2 consulting, you already 'know the game'.
  • Fit preparation is key - but really don't underestimate the casing portion. Even MDPs get cased when they lateral :)
  • To confirm.. this is an ECT role yes, not the CT one that is aligned to a PA. Reason is because expert track has its own challenges, and it can make a big difference in a couple of years time for your career trajectory

I've coached several PL level hires before, see my reviews for one successful candidate who got hired into the Energy practice before.

Happy to have a more detailed chat, just drop me a DM!

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on your career trajectory thus far!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, your profile sounds like a strong match for the Expert Project Leader role. The combination of climate work with major oil & gas players, plus real consulting experience, is quite aligned with what the role entails.
  • Moreover, having led several projects in the region, I would love to guide you through the process.
  • Lastly, while personal fit is certainly important, please keep in mind that you will still have to work through case studies like basically all other candidates.

If you would like to receive the help of the most recommended and one of the most, if not the most experienced coach in terms of consulting, interviewing and coaching experience, who has helped several (experienced) BCG candidates applying to Middle Eastern offices over the last 12 months, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

I see you've received some great answers on this already.

I'd encourage you to discuss these things openly with the recruiter as well. They are there to help, and they are well-meaning. They could give you a glimpse into how your experience would fit into that particular office / practice combination.

Best,
Cristian
