Bain Application process for Advanced Degree Candidates in the US

Hi,

Can you please elaborate more on the application process for ADs? I understand that you start with submitting your application, then taking an online assessment, so they can evaluate whether an applicant will be interviewed or not. My questions are:

1- What online assessment is currently used for ADs in the US?

2- How many interviews will be conducted? How does each interview look?

3- Does Bain emphasize the personal fit questions as McKinsey or just formality to make sure you can hold a conversation?

4- Lastly, is it possible to interview this Summer for a November 2025 or January 2026 start date? If not, when is the earliest I can start?

Hi,

Are you still in school for your AD, or do you have working experiences already?

Usually there would be 2 rounds of interviews (for roles below manager), and 2 interviews each round. The 1st round would be 2 x 30 minutes, purely on case interview. The 2nd round would be 2 x 45 minutes, with case + FIT. FIT is important even though it is only in 2nd round. It is not a formality.

Nov 2025 or Jan 2026 might be too soon, unless you are experienced hire in a field that the firm / office urgently needs. But the best is the check with the recruiting team for your intended office / region.

Best,

Emily

Hi there,

For questions 1, 2, and 4, the only reliable answer you can get is from the actual recruiter. These things can differ from office to office, so it's best to get the info straight from the people who set these things.

On question 3, Bain also puts a strong emphasis on the personal fit, only that they use a slightly different format from McKinsey. For instance, instead of having one question / story for the entire component of the personal fit, they might ask multiple questions and it might feel closer to what you know a personal fit interview to feel like.

Best,
Cristian
