Dear all,

I am currently in the situation that I am in the recruiting process for an internship at various consulting firms. However, I already got an offer from one firm while I am still in the process at other ones. I really like this one but now I am wondering what the impacts will be of withdrawing my application at the other firms since I already got an offer for an internship. Will it be possible to reapply another time for another internship or will I get banned or lower my chances then? I am not sure how to best handle the situation without ruining my chances for an internship or a full-time role later on.

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi there,

Congratulations on the offer! In terms of your questions:

1) I am wondering what the impacts will be of withdrawing my application at the other firms since I already got an offer for an internship.

There is no problem with withdrawing the ongoing applications if you believe the offer you have is already the best. You can write a polite email thanking them for their time and explaining that you got another offer in the meantime and opted for that. You can also call HR before sending the email to anticipate the decision over the phone and personally thank them.

I agree with Ian that it is important for you to have a signed offer before doing so.

2) Will it be possible to reapply another time for another internship or will I get banned or lower my chances then?

If you withdraw from the process in a polite way explaining the situation, you can apply again in the future without issues.

Best,

Francesco

Hi there!

By all means, if you already have an offer (actually signed, not just verbal) and if you'd like to take this offer, then drop the others ones.

The earlier you tell them, the better. This way nobody wastes time in the process.

Be polite with your email to them, explain that you decided to go for a different offer, but that you appreciate all their support throughout the recruitment process. Then try to make the best of what comes ahead of you in the new role.

Sharing with you two articles about what it takes to hit the ground running in consulting:

Best,
Cristian

Hello,

Congratulations on getting an offer!

If you're 100% certain that you would prefer to work at the firm you got an offer from to any of the firms you are interviewing with, it is perfectly acceptable to withdraw your application.

In fact, it's considered good practice - this way you are not wasting their time or your time. You will not get banned, and you can always reapply if you think you might want an opportunity there in the future.

In your withdrawal, make sure to be polite and professional, and thank then for the time and opportunity given to interview with them.

However, if you think you might prefer an offer from one of the firms you are currently interviewing with to the offer you currently hold, absolutely keep interviewing. Offers usually have a deadline by which you have to get back to them (and you can also ask to extend that if needed), so you can keep interviewing in the meantime to see what your ultimate outcomes are at several firms.

Hello there,

Congratulations on securing an internship offer with your dream firm! That's a significant achievement.

Regarding your ongoing applications with other firms, it's entirely acceptable to withdraw your application once you've accepted an offer from another company. You shouldn't feel guilty about this decision; in fact, it's considered a responsible course of action.

If you withdraw your application, it is unlikely that you will be banned from applying to the same firm in the future. To minimize the impact of withdrawing your application, I would recommend doing it professionally and respectfully.

You can send an email to the recruiter or hiring manager, expressing your gratitude for the opportunity and explaining that you have accepted an offer from another firm. You can also mention that you are still interested in working for the company in the future.

I hope this helps!

Hi there,

First congratulations and don't worry!

You're thinking about this right here, but do not be concerned.

If the current firm is the offer you want (and, importantly you already have the signed contract in your hand), then it's perfectly fine (and, actually, proper etiquette) to pull out from the other interviews.

Just do so respectfully and you will be fine.

Hi there,

that is great news about the offer you received. If you are content with the firm and you have to make a decision before you get the chance to complete any of the other recruiting processes, I would take the offer.

Once you have it in writing in front of you, you can let the other firms know that you don’t intend to continue with their process at this time - but you would be happy to reapply in the future.

Best of luck
