Which consulting firms have the biggest strategy practice in SEA region?

Hi there!

I have received several offers from several consulting firms as an entry-level strategy analyst in Malaysia. Some to mention would be Accenture, EY, Deloitte, Kearney, etc. A big part of my decision-making regarding the offers is to be part of an organisation with a significant strategy presence in the SEA region.

Apart from the MBB's (because unfortunately, I didn't get any offers from them), which firms have the largest strategy practice in the region?

One of the main objectives in my early career as a consultant is to be exposed to various projects from different industries. I'd love to get your opinions about this and hopefully learn something based off some of your experiences.

I would suggest size should not bee the only factor in your decision making . Office culture alignment, the kind of work (sector or functions) the office does should be more important parameters in your decision making

I suggest you look for the number of offices each firm has in the region, as that is likely to be the best indicator of having a strong practice.

Conducted over 100 interviews for grads, interns & experienced hires

Oliver Wyman has a large and growing presence in South East Asia and is doubling down on the region so definitely worth keeping them on your radar.

Thanks for the info. Never considered OW until you brought it up. I'll try to get an interview round with them. Thanks!

Hello Jeremy,

Of the ones mentioned, I would say OW. However, it´s hard to know from outside even if you are in close contact with candidates and in the consulting world. I woudl recommend you to network with poeple from the area.

Cheers,

Clara

quick answer- from the names you mentioned Kearney would be the best pick, given they are a exclusively into management consulting. OW, as mentioned below, is also a good choice but keep in mind that they are part of the Marsh group and likely report consulting numbers. This does change dynamics a bit, in my opinion as there is possibly more focus on meeting targets, cross-selling etc.

Also Kearney to MBB would be the easiest progression to achieve in the future, in case you are inclined towards it

Thanks for your input! You definitely make a good point with Kearney. I'll keep that in mind as I still consider. Thanks! :)
