Recently got an offer for one office at Bain for full time. What does the process for an office transfer to NYC look like?
Transfer Offices - Bain

Hi Tim,
If you're trying to switch the office on your offer letter….good luck!
It is extremely rare that they do this and you really should not have applied to x office if you were never interested in it in the first place.
You can try, but it's unlikely they accept this. There has to be a real reason (family emergency, life change, etc.).
Now, if you want to transfer after a year or two that's another matter! To do this you need to perform well, network internally, and follow their processes for transfer….and, of course, you need to be patient!

Office transfer in Bain is possible after 1-2 years with extensive networking, above average performance and if your expertise is in the areas that Bain NYC does a lot of engagements in (e.g. Financial services, Private equity). Bain NYC and London are the most sought after offices in the network so the competition will be stiff. Also depends on nationality, if non-US, visa requirements might make the switch difficult.
Thanks Ashwin
Hi Tim,
Congrats - I take it you are planning to accept the offer?
Once you will be working for Bain at location X, you might apply for a short-term or permanent office relocation after c. 1-2 years. If you have urgent reasons to relocate (e.g. your spouse is moving to NYC and that was not foreseeable at the time you signed the contract for location X), another solution might well be found earlier. Also to be considered: When traveling to client is involved and Friday is the only office day, office attendance is often not strictly tracked!
Hope that helps. If you'd like to discuss this further, feel free to get in touch! :)
Best, Christina

Could you please clarify which scenario we're talking about:
- You got an offer for Bain office X and wonder how to transfer to Bain office NYC after while
- You got an offer for Bain office NYC and are wondering about the relocation process for being hired out of a different location
Those are two very different scenarios and the more details we have, the better we can provide you guidance.
Best,
Moritz

Hello!
Congrats!
The most important thing is having the blessing of the two offices, the from and the to, and for this you will require some months of work and network.
However, in order to go to NY, it´s key that you have a visa (provided you are an international). Without that, it´s practically impossible.
Hope it helps!
Cheers,
Clara
