Initial LEK Online Assessment

Hi, I applied to a lateral associate role at LEK yesterday. After submitting, I was prompted to take an assessment as the next step. I was told it would be 20-30 minutes to “highlight my skills in action.” Any idea what the assessment will be like? Not sure what to prepare for.

Hey,

The test is pretty common, almost standard. From what I’ve heard (late 2025), it is heavier on data questions (e.g., graphs, thinking in terms of growth or margin percentages) than most consulting tests. I would ensure you know how to read the most common graph types and answer questions where you have to quickly calculate data based on them.

You might also expect some multiple-choice "situational questions" (e.g., "In your team, you have one person behaving in way X and another in way Y; you notice some tension. How would you manage this?").

Just FYI: these tests change fairly often, as Recruiting teams are continuously A/B testing what works best and rotate questions or types every 1-2 years once they realize people have become too familiar with them.

Good luck!

Tom

The "highlight my skills in action" phrasing sounds like the HireVue game based assessment LEK uses.

It is a short digital assessment that uses games to screen for consulting relevant skills. Expect pattern recognition, simple math, and logical sequences. Some versions also include numerical reasoning with charts, verbal reasoning with text passages, and situational judgement questions where you pick how you would handle a workplace scenario.

A few quick tips. There are no strictly right or wrong answers on the game sections. The games rank you based on how closely your profile matches successful consultants, so do not overthink individual questions. For the situational judgement part, skim LEK's values on their website before you start.

For math and pattern sections, stay calm and move quickly. Practice under timed conditions if you can.

This is just a screening step. If you pass, the standard process is two interview rounds mixing case and behavioural questions, with a written case at the final round.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

This is quite standard for L.E.K.

The initial online assessment is usually a short screening test, not a full case. Expect something along the lines of:

  • numerical reasoning (basic calculations, interpreting charts/tables)
  • logical reasoning
  • sometimes short business judgment questions

It’s typically timed and meant to test how you think under pressure, not deep technical knowledge.

A few tips:

  • be comfortable with quick math (percentages, ratios)
  • practice interpreting charts quickly
  • don’t get stuck — move on if a question is taking too long

No need for heavy preparation, but doing a few SHL/GMAT-style practice questions can help you get into the rhythm.

Overall, think of it as a first filter, not something overly complex.

Hi there,

All of these tests are very similar.

Format? Somewhat. Content and what's required from you ability-wise? Not at all.

The best way is to really find online tests / questions and practice. Regardless as to whether it's a new or old test, the principles are mostly the same:

  • Time management (need to think quick)
  • Business knowledge/context (incl key formulas)
  • Critical thinking (answers that are very similar to each other... clues "hidden" in the text)
  • Ability to interpret data/charts

Think of it as a merge of a case and the GMAT/GRE.

You need to be clear on some key case related and accounting formulas (margin, growth, breakeven, etc) as well as be good at critically understanding the question (including nuance to questions) and parsing through complicated text with a fair amount of distraction.

You'll also need to be good at chart/graph reading.

The (old) McKinsey PST, BCG Online Test, Bain SOVA test, etc. are all quite similar so leverage resources across all of them.

Benjamin,

I see you've received a few great answers already. I recommend you practice LEK-specific tests, but also go beyond those. Any screening test assesses the same things, the sort of skills that are critical for a consultant. So by practising broadly, you'll end up increasing your overall base.

hey Benjamin :)

for LEK Consulting, the online assessment for lateral associate roles is usually a mix of short case style business questions and sometimes a few numerical or chart based exercises, more about how you think than pure knowledge

you typically get mini scenarios where you need to interpret information, make quick business decisions, and sometimes do light calculations, but nothing overly technical or long case interviews

best way to prepare is to be comfortable reading graphs fast, structuring simple answers clearly, and staying calm under time pressure, it’s more about logical thinking and prioritization than perfect answers

you don’t need heavy prep, just make sure you’re fresh, focused, and don’t overthink each question

if you want, I can walk you through a sample question style so you feel more confident

best,
Alessa :)
