Hi all,

I've received a case study and I have to produce a business problem and make recommendations on how to solve it within 24 hours. They have asked for data files to be submitted with the presentation, does anyone know if they will be expecting proper spend data or just data I can make myself?

Any help greatly appreciated!

If you are unsure, and probably here we also do not know the answer to the specific case, I would suggest to stay safe and use real data, IF it is available. Check first which companies provide any info on their supply chain, maybe a list of suppliers or partners and then formulate a problem so that you do not spend hours trying to find data. Sorry that I cannot be more specific. I checked but there is little supply chain data available generally since it is proprietary and hence I would propose to proceed like this.

Hi there,

You need to clarify with them!

It sounds like they indeed do want you to do and find your own data to back up your insights.

Feel free to reach out - I've helped countless candidate navigate the written case (both with and without data)

I will never get tired to reiterate that a case interview is a test to understand if you are ready to become a consultant.
Consultants do not make up their data, so you have to source real pieces of information and state the source.

Thanks for your comment, understood. However, the question isn't around whether its better to have real data or mock data, it's around access to sensitive supply chain data which is the issue and whether the interviewer will expect this given the availability of data. If mock data is used, I'd assume it would still be valuable for the interviewer to see your way of thinking and approaching a situation and the way you present it back. Any recommendations on where to source the real would be appreciated.
