Summer Associate Middle East

Hello,

I am an MBA candidate, and I am applying for the summer associate position at Bain Middle East. However, I am hesitating concerning the ranking of preferences. I want to target the office where the Private Equity practice is the most developed (Dubai), but I am not sure that there are some spots available there. Do you think that I can still put Dubai in the first position? How about Riyadh and Doha?

Does a ranking like this make sense?

Dubai: 40% / Riyadh: 30% / Doha: 30%

Thank you !

Hello,

I would advise you to rank them based on your preference, and depending on demand/supply of candidates and how well you do in the interviews (and credentials), you might be able to negotiate an offer in Dubai - although most consulting firms in the Middle East are generally pushing to hire in Riyadh and Doha before Dubai.

Best,

Hi Adrien,

If you prefer Dubai, it makes sense to have the highest percentage there compared to the other options. Assuming you are indifferent between Riyadh and Doha, the split you proposed makes sense. It is true that hiring is generally stronger in Riyadh and Doha, but with the split you suggested, you still have the option to be considered for Dubai if they happen to have openings.

Hi there,

I would say that top of the list should be what is most appealing to you (also in terms of lifestyle because that is a huge difference). Comp is better in Riyadh as they are trying to push people into SA.

Also whey in your performance and how much leverage you think you have.

Best,
Sebastian

Hi there,

The ranking does make sense if you have a preference for Dubai.

Generally, the supply/demand situation for Dubai is the most challenging across all practices compared to Doha and Riyadh. They would likely still consider you for the other two locations if Dubai does not work out (since it's not 80/10/10).

All the best,

Florian

Hey there 😊,

Yes, you can definitely put Dubai as your first choice—it’s the strongest Bain ME office for Private Equity, and they do look at your preferences. That said, demand is high, so adding Riyadh and Doha as second and third makes total sense.

Your ranking sounds good! Just make sure to signal flexibility in your application or cover letter (if asked), so they know you’re open across the region.

If you’d like help fine-tuning your story or making your profile PE-relevant, I’d be happy to support 😊

Best, Alessa 😇
