I have received an invitation to complete Strategy& online assessment test. Unfortunately I did not find online any resources to guide me on what to expect and how to prep. Would appreciate the help. Thank you!

Hi there,

Honestly, all of these online tests are very similar

Format? Somewhat. Content and what's required from you ability-wise? Not at all.

The best way is to really find online tests / questions and practice. Regardless as to whether is a new or old test, the principles are mostly the same:

  • Time management (need to think quick)
  • Business knowledge/context (incl key formulas)
  • Critical thinking (answers that are very similar to each other...clues "hidden" in the text)
  • Ability to interpret data/charts

Think of it as a merge of a case and the GMAT/GRE.

You need to be clear on some key case-related and account formulas (margin, growth, breakeven, etc) as well as be good at critically understanding the question (including nuance to questions) and parsing through complicated text with a fair amount of distraction.

You'll also need to be good at chart/graph reading.

The (old) McKinsey PST, BCG Online Test, Bain SOVA test, etc. are all quite similar so leverage resources across all of them.

Hi there,

Strategy& uses a similar format to all Big4. Aim to practice GMAT questions, math drills focusing on chart interpretation and quick math, as well as text comprehension (e.g., you might be given a Financial Times article with multiple choice reading comprehension questions at the end). Aim to practice as much as possible. This is meant to be the easy part of the process :)

Hello There,

This has been recently introduced at the firm to better screen the large pool of applications that the firm is seeing. It's a general aptitude test and will test the basics around quantitative and analytical thinking. I do not think you need to prepare separately for it. Reach out to the recruiting team and they can give you high level details - test duration, number of questions etc.

Good luck!

Hi there,

Assuming you mean the SHL-administered aptitude test, that they fairly recently started using in some offices.

Overall, nothing to worry about - it's quite similar to aptitude tests many other consulting firms, Tech firms & banks use. Also, most candidates who do well in casing, do (sufficiently) well in these online tests. Usually does not really require a lot of upfront practice.

You can expect the following, but please note that this is subject to office and I have seen regional variances…

  • Numerical reasoning
  • Verbal reasoning
  • Logical reasoning / pattern recognition
  • OPQ personality test (less common)

To prepare, would suggest the following 2 things…

  1. As S& HR to provide a sample test / practice questions
  2. Check out the relevant test samples from the SHL website: Practice Tests | SHL Direct

This should do, but feel free to reach out if you have further questions.

Regards, Andi
