Return to MBB post-MBA

Hello community,

If you get into a consulting firm that sponsors you to get into an MBA program and you start such program, how many years of lock in - meaning you are obliged to stay at the consulting firm otherwise you have to pay back the MBA - do you have?

Thanks,

G.

Hi, G.,

In my experience, you are typically asked to stay for 2-years after completing your MBA, but I guess it may vary depending on each firm's policies, on each office's/geography's policies within that firm and even on specific conditions you might be able to negotiate (if you are doing a job or geography rotation, if you plan on taking vacations, etc.)

I hope it helps.

Cheers,

McKinsey Manager & Recruiter | Led 150+ interviews for McK | Personally hired 15+ McK consultants | Got MBB offers

Hello,

At McKinsey it is 2 years. I believe it is a non negotiable duration.

One important thing to keep in mind: you will have to pay taxes on the reimbursement loan. You get reimbursed as salary, therefore you will have to pay taxes on it. So it is not technically “free” as people often say.

Hope this helps!

Most firms require 2 years minimum. Of course this varies a lot by firm and also the region you are going to.

Hi,

At BCG this is 2 years, so after your C (consultant) tenure you will have finished the bond.

Similar when I was at Kearney as well.

Hi there,

This is different for every firm and every office.

The standard case is 1-2 years and if you leave earlier, you pay it back pro-rated.

Cheers,

Florian

Is GRE / GMAT needed for MBB? I got into the MBA (esade) without one using their in-house test, but I am wondering if I should focus on it?
