What types of training are provided for new hires at MBB?

Are the trainings usually conducted in the first few weeks?

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the (supposed) upcoming consulting career entry!

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • Generally speaking, there are (at least) three different types of trainings you need to distinguish:
    • Introductory trainings: Normally catering to all/ most levels, you will learn the very basics of tools, resources and procedures across all functions in the first couple of weeks. These trainings normally last several days.
    • Thorough, level-based trainings: Normally offsite, you will receive thorough training on all dimensions of problem solving, client and team interaction specific to your level. These trainings normally last between 5-10 days.
    • Specific skill-based trainings: Based on specific needs and wants, you will have the opportunity to conduct trainings catering to a specific skill. These trainings normally last between a couple of hours to a full day.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare your upcoming career entry before the start, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

Bain | Roland Berger | EY-Parthenon | Mentoring Approach | 30% off first 10 sessions in May| Market Sizing | DARDEN MBA

You have all types of training. E-learning, in-room sessions on your office, and after a few weeks you may have an offsite training (although not sure how that is working right now with COVID).

The initial training focuses on the basics: the internal tools, how to do slides, how to work on excel, how to think about communication, how to interact with clients, what's expected from you at your rank.

Hi there,

You have your initial cohort training (generally 2 weeks) which is a crash course in consulting.

Then, there are periodic (normally twice yearly) trainings for a couple of days.

Additionally, you learn significantly on the job and through various learning tools/platforms (e.g. BCG Labs) at your own discretion.
