McKinsey - waiting for response

Hi everyone,

I applied for the McKinsey BA & BA Intern positions last month and was informed I’d hear back by 25th March at the latest. It’s now the 4th of April and I haven’t received any update.

I initially emailed mckinsey_recruiting@mckinsey.com, but received an automated reply stating the mailbox isn’t monitored. I then reached out to Apps_Help@mckinsey.com, and earlier this week I got a response saying:

“Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern. We apologise for the delay in our response. We will contact the team reviewing your application and they will be in touch with you with an update on the status.”

My application status still shows “Submitted – In Progress” on the portal.

I’m wondering if I’m missing something here or if this could be a silent rejection. Has anyone else faced a similar delay or received an update recently?

Hi, I also applied to the same offices as you about 4 weeks ago and am waiting to hear back.

Hi,

I understood other candidates are in the same position like you. I would try to reach out via phone and request when they will come back with an answer. The silence from their side does not mean a silent rejection.

hey!

Thanks for sharing all the details — you're definitely not alone in this situation. Here's a breakdown of what’s likely going on and how you might want to approach it:

What This Likely Means

  1. Delays are common, especially for popular offices like Dubai & Abu Dhabi, which tend to be highly competitive and receive large volumes of applications.
  2. Your portal status showing “Submitted – In Progress” is a good sign — if it were a rejection, that would likely have changed to “Closed” or “Not Selected.”
  3. McKinsey’s recruiting teams often batch communications, especially for international offices, and timing can vary even after giving a specific date like March 25.
  4. The response from Apps_Help is generic, but the fact that they said they’d “contact the team reviewing your application” shows your case is still being handled — that wouldn’t happen if it were an auto-rejection.

🧐 Could This Be a Silent Rejection?

It's possible, but not certain. Silent rejections typically come with:

  • A status change in the portal.
  • No response for several weeks past the communicated deadline. You're just over a week late, and they acknowledged the delay — so you’re still in the game for now.

🧭 What You Can Do

  • Wait a few more business days (maybe until mid-next week). A lot of applicants are reporting similar delays.
  • If no update by then, consider following up once more — this time, try to reach out via:
    • Your local recruiter if you were given one (e.g., after submitting your application).
    • Or ask someone in your network (alumni, LinkedIn connection) who has gone through recruiting in the UAE offices for advice.
  • Keep applying elsewhere in the meantime. Even if you’re still being considered, always good to hedge.

🧘‍♂️ Bottom Line

It’s not a silent rejection just yet. The status and the reply suggest they’re running behind. If others applying to Dubai & Abu Dhabi have gotten decisions already, that could hint at your app being borderline, on hold, or reviewed later in the process — which still gives you a shot.

Good luck! Alessa

Hi there,

McKinsey is not doing silent rejections.

Rather, they are not sure about hiring demand at the moment (out of the MBBs they are hiring by far the fewest people at the moment - even though they advertise many roles...).

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

With the current economic situation it is not uncommon for candidate to wait longer than usual for feedback.

Usually MBB doesn't do silent rejection. There is no need to wonder how to interpret the situation, because there are just so many factors out of your control. Focus on what you can – do you have other interviews lining up? If so spend your energy on those. Or any other things on your plate that you have control.

Good luck!

Hi!

Sorry to hear this, I agree with the advice already given but wanted to add one more thing:

If you cannot find the recuriting teams real email address, find the recruiting team on Linkedin.

You can even sign up for a premium account to send Linkedin messages and cancel it before the grace period is over.

Good luck!

No silent rejections. They will always reply.

It is normal to take 3-4 weeks to come back with an answer.
