McKinsey & Company - application timeline

Hi all,

I am very conscious that application processes are lengthy and I personally wait, on an average, 2 to 3 weeks to hear back between each step (with a min. of 4 steps depending on the company's application process). Hence, I have specific questions regarding McK application timeline:

1. How long do I need to wait regarding the outcome of the Solve game?

2. I am quite confident regarding my performance with Solve - does it guarantee an interview (i.e. did I already pass the screening as I was invited to the assessment?)

3. If I do get invited to an interview, how long do I have between the email invitation and the first round interview?

Thank you so much!

Hi there,

You want control over this (human nature), but there is none to be had.

Please stop trying to create an illusion of control! Ultimately they will decide the pace/process. You just need to be ready to adapt. (Much like in the interview itself)

1. How long do I need to wait regarding the outcome of the Solve game?

I've seen it take a few days and I've also seen it take a month plus.

2. I am quite confident regarding my performance with Solve - does it guarantee an interview (i.e. did I already pass the screening as I was invited to the assessment?)

No it doesn't. Your application is assessed hollistically.

3. If I do get invited to an interview, how long do I have between the email invitation and the first round interview?

It could be a few days and it could be a month plus

My Main Advice: Network with and apply to a ton of firms. Please don't place and your hopes and dreams on McKinsey and McKinsey only.

Hi there,

  1. The great majority hear back within 5 business days, for some its 2 weeks, and then there are outliers who wait for a month.
  2. If you passed the screening + have a strong Solve product AND process score, you should move to the interviews.
  3. Usually 1 to 2 weeks, however, McKinsey interview scheduling is quite flexible and most of the time you are able to postpone.

Have a look at the following articles for your prep:

Hi there,

unfortunately the process can be lengthy and it also depends if you are part of the specific hiring wave (e.g. from a school) or you apply anytime.

1. How long do I need to wait regarding the outcome of the Solve game?

→ usually 1-3 weeks for each step, if you our not part of the wave it can take even longer. If you dont hear nothing after 2 weeks, reach to HR requesting update or new date to know

2. I am quite confident regarding my performance with Solve - does it guarantee an interview (i.e. did I already pass the screening as I was invited to the assessment?)

→ If you pass Solve and your score is above the min result you should get an interview. Here often depends on the competition. You can score 95% that is high, but if there are just 100 slots and they end at 97% you wouldnt be invited.

3. If I do get invited to an interview, how long do I have between the email invitation and the first round interview?

→ generally speaking 2-4 weeks but this very much depend on the availability of the interviewing staff.

Good luck!

Hello,

I would say this depends a lot based on the office you are applying to. From my experience from recruiting with the Middle-east offices:

1- There is typically a window of a few days to complete the Solve game. After which I was told to expect the result for interview invites on a certain date. Thus, it didn't matter if I finished the Solve game first or last.

2- Unfortunately, it does not. I have seen candidates doing pretty well in the Solve game but still not receiving the interview invites. McKinsey assesses the candidate wholistically including the CV review before rolling out invites.

3- Timeline between the invitation and the actual date of the interview varies a lot. It can be as early as <1 week, to even 2-3 weeks (as in the case for Summer Interns). However, between the 2 rounds of interviews, the timeline is typically 1 week.

All the best!

Hi

1) could take anywhere between 1-3 weeks. Firms are busy these days so expect on the higher side

2) In most cases yes unless you have some red flag in your CV (typically CV is screened by somebody senior in addition to the test)

3) It’s up to you. if you feel prepared, you can request the recruiting team to schedule it soon to get through the process quickly. It won’t happen the next day but expect between 1-2 weeks depending on interviewers availability to have the first round

i hope this helps

good luck
