Hi,
I am appearing for the First round McK case interview (Operations Practice) in a few days. I have two interviews with an Expert and a Senior Expert.
1. Wondering if someone has recently appeared for Operations practice case interviews. Did you get an operations based case? I do know the answer that I should be prepared for any type of case.
2. For the PEI, other than Professional stories. Can I share a personal story where I convinced someone to do something by overcoming cultural barriers? It is a really strong story in terms of the personal outcome for me. I would not have wanted to use this story but the interviewers are from the same cultural background so they will understand the context.
Regards
McK Aspirant

Operations
1) Search on Operations here:: https://www.preplounge.com/en/management-consulting-cases?language=en&topic[]=8&sort=real-case-desc&page=1&perPage=20
2) Google and casebooks are your friend. As are the McKinsey Operations and BCG Operations sites!
3) Send me a message and I can provide you with a few good ones and/or case you in them! Some examples include:
- X retailer currently is seeing delivery delays due to lack or storage containers and skyrocketing container costs - how would you go about resolving this situation?
- Vaccine maker x is seeing shortages in supplies for manufacturing - how can we resolve these shortages?
- X distrubiton center would like to purchase an inventory management system - how would you evauate this decision?

Hey Mck Aspirant,
Congrats on your interview! :-)
1. I had a couple of candidates for ops over the last weeks / months and it was always a mixture, roughly 50/50 for ops specific cases vs. completely unrelated ones.
Have a look at McK case interviews here: https://www.preplounge.com/en/mckinsey-interview
2. Yes, that story would work based on the context, assuming that the content delivers what it should. For more help to craft your stories, check out this article: https://www.preplounge.com/en/mckinsey-pei
All the best,
Florian

Hello there,
First of all, congrats on getting to the interviews. Let me take your questions in order.
1. As you say, you should be prepared for all types of cases, but ideally do spend extra time on operations one as you're likely to be tested on those. I have a few examples of Ops focused cases in case you'd like some help. Also, I did work extensively in the Ops practice while in the Firm so I can support you in case you have questions about what to expect once inside the Firm.
2. That sounds like a great story to prove inclusive leadership. Just make sure to highlight your personal contribution, while also being mindful of how you dealt with the cultural differences. And of course, try not to come across as patronizing.
Best of luck and feel free to reach out!

Hi!
1) I'm supporting several candidates in preparing for Ops interviews. Some of them have received ops-related cases, while others haven't.
2) Yes, if it is relevant for the interviewer. From what you've written, it looks like this would be a good story for the “inclusive leadership” story.
Good luck,
Anto

- Ops based case: I recently had a coachee get into BCG ops practice as an expert consultant. Happy to give you case interview experience from latest real MBB ops interview cases. I even have 3-4 real ops cases from my consulting days that I can discuss with you to showcase how it works for ops in consulting.
- Ops based case: You should expect at least 1 of interviews in the round with an ops case. Further, you can expect one of the experts do dig into technical questions
- PEI: Your stories need NOT be only professional stories. In fact, personal impact stories can sometimes be more effective. Convincing someone and overcoming cultural barriers is an extremely strong story. Whether the interviewers are from the same background or not - shouldn't matter. You should prepare your stories in a complete manner.
