Hello

please help I am freaking out I did a lot of networking to get the invitation (it’s an internship CCN role , and I am penultimate year student)

I did a first connection with the manager in charge of the Hub CCN, and did speak many times with my recruiter.

but now i failed to complete my second part of the second game on time ( i had the red rock lab).

i really do want to have the chance to be interviewed.

and i think no one has done it before in my cas or even my school .

Hi there,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about the poor performance in the McKinsey Solve!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • First of all, even if it sounds harsh, there is no need to contemplate what you could have done better or what you should do next time you need to solve the Imbellus game. Instead, I would highly advise you to get yourself out of this self-destructive spiral. Spend time with family and friends, pursue a hobby, or engage in sports.
  • Moreover, given that you do not even know the consequences of your McKinsey Solve performance for certain, I would advise you to wait and distract yourself from those self-destructive thoughts.
  • Lastly, in case you are not invited to the interviews, there are many other great strategy consulting companies out there. As such, I would advise you to focus your energy on those, ensure that you reapply with the best possible application, and wait for the results.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

not finishing on time is not an automatic rejection. I know of quite a few cases, who couldn't finish the 2nd game and still passed to interview stage - the scoring parameters go way beyond time management. Also, different offices in different geographies take a different stance on how strictly they follow the test scores.

In either case, it's not in your control now, so suggest you just wait and see.

Wish you all the best!

Regards, Andi

Hi there,

I'm really sorry to hear about this.

This is why coaching is so important. Or, at the very least, investing a bit in one of the Imbellus practice games.

There's a few things to keep in mind here:

  1. This too shall pass
  2. There are hundreds of other companies out there for you - network and apply to them
  3. It's not “over” until it's over
  4. There is nothing you can do now, so just more forward
  5. Learn from this experience, next time, think about how much something is worth to you and invest accordingly
  6. You never know what next year or the following years will bring (when you can re-apply)

I can only speak for DACH so take this with a grain of salt ... but: in my opinion I completely bombed the online game while still getting a full-time front office / consulting offer. Every redflag that is raised online happened to me: (1) I jumped around erratically during the eco-system building. I was nervous and did missunderstand the rules of the game. In the end I could not finish that part and I am sure the ecosystem did not work (2) With the tower defense game I managed to barely pass 15R in round 1 and 2. In round 3 I failed even before because I was quite let down after I bombed the ecosystem game lmao. To this day it still baffles me when some people claim they survided >40 rounds. Like what? As I said take this with a big grain of salt. In Germany you are invited to imbellus + the interview at the same time. Thus, even if you open the Imbellus game and not do anything at all (score 0) you will still be interviewed. Still wanted to add this for people applying to DACH and stumbling across this in the future. I stressed myself for about 4-5 weeks for nothing. They still hired me.

I couldn’t agree more! Hence my point 3 “it’s not over until it’s over” :) It’s a holistic assessment indeed!
