How important is the QS Master degree ranking?

Hi there, I have a wuestion regarding the ranking of Master degree programs. Today the new ranking QS ‚Master im Management‘ 2025 was published. My master program was throughout the last years always in the Top than but now randomly droped almost 10 places. Is this a problem for getting a chance at MBB firms? Is it a problem taht it is now not ranked within the best 15 programs? Does it have a effect on recruiting opportunities (especially in an international contect and with DACH region)? Thank you!

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, the QS rankings are not necessarily the most reliable and important rankings, although this could be debated.
  • Moreover, since consulting firms are very knowledgeable about the quality of education at different universities, I would advise you not to worry. If your university has been a "target university" for consulting firms before, it will most likely continue to be so.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hi there! I wouldn’t worry too much about rankings. Most top employers rely more on their own experience and knowledge of the quality of schools and candidates, rather than focusing on rankings - especially when changes are recent. A slight drop won’t diminish the reputation or quality of your program.

What’s really important is building a strong application, having a clear storyline about why you’re interested in a specific firm, and demonstrating your skills and potential. Focus on highlighting your achievements, leadership experiences, and how you fit with the firm. Best of luck with your application!

Hi there,

That is a non-issue.

Consulting firms do not quickly change their pool of schools they hire from (the target school concept is anyway much less applied in Europe/DACH) just because of some ranking drop.

All the best,

Not a big issue. They have their target schools and this doesn't change necessarily by a recent drop in the rankings.
