Hello! Hope everyone is well. First Round Interview, Monitor Deloitte (Dubai)

My first round interviews entails a case study, where I will get 30 minutes to review a written case, 30 minutes to present it and answer questions, followed by a technical/behavioral inerview.

Having only given the standard case interviews, I was looking for suggestions as to how to prepare for a written case interview. Are there any tips/resources to go about it. Would be grateful for any help!

Thank you

Hi,

I've uploaded some samples here:

The best way to prepare is the following:

  1. Check if the calculator is allowed. If not - you have to train mental math. I posted the main tips here: https://www.preplounge.com/en/consulting-forum/tips-to-do-big-multiplications-in-my-mind-726#a1422
  2. Prepare for a regular case interview - it helps a lot. Basically, prep lounge website is about it
  3. Practice making slides. Look for publically available MBB presentations for reference. Good books are "Pyramid Principle" and "How to make it with charts"
  4. Practice reading cases fast and prioritizing the information. I found useful two sources:
  • Written cases you'll be able to find in google or in case books. I've seen a couple in "Vault Guide to the Case Interview" and "Insead Business Admission Test"
  • Harvard cases - either buy or try to find online. You can find a couple of MIT cases here for free: https://mitsloan.mit.edu/LearningEdge/Pages/Case-Studies.aspx Unfortunately free cases don't have the prep questions.

Best!

Deloitte Consulting case: Footloose

Duraflex is a German footwear company with annual men’s footwear sales of approximately €1 b.

They have always relied on the boot market for the majority of their volume. In this market they compete with three other major competitors.

In the fall of 2019, Badger – one of Duraflex’s competitiors – launched a new line of aggressively priced work boots. The strong success of this line has caused Duraflex’s management to re-evaluate their position in work boots.

With limited additional resources, the management must now decide if they should focus their efforts on competing with Badger in the work boot sector, or allocate their resources on further strengthening their position with casual boots. The management team approached you and asked for your advice. In order to advise them on their future work boot strategy please prepare first some insights regarding market size and competitive landscape.
