For reference check/background check in Singapore and the States, how many previous employers/years do they check?
I haven't had contact with those firms for years. For some firm, I don't necessarily have a good relationship with.

In general, you should assume they will check anything and everything on your resume (whether they do that or not, it's all fair game).
It doesn't matter if you haven't had contact with those firms. If you are in their records (and weren't fired for negligence etc.) then you're safe!
They are not checking if you had a good relationship or were a good employee. They are confirming that you worked there.
I recently had one of those background checks and they were only considering the employers in the last 5 years.
