Hello,

I have a 30 mins fit interview with a Director at EY-P Chicago office. Any tips on how to prepare for it?

Thanks,

Hi there,

Here's some fit tips: https://www.preplounge.com/en/articles/tell-me-about-yourself-interview-question

In terms of stories: use PrepLounge's stress test material here! https://www.preplounge.com/en/self-study-mode.php

There's really two important things to remember in answering fit questions:

Keep it natural

Keep it structured

Yes, you should use STAR, PARADE, whatever works. However, fundamentally you should not come across as robotic/over-rehearsed.

And, while you should keep it natural, that doesn't mean you don't prepare or "wing it"! You need to have a structure and articulate the story clearly.

To intro, it can honestly be something as simple as "Ah, so a few things come to mind, but there was one time where xxxx"

Hi there,

Common fit questions you may expect in a consulting interview are:

  1. Tell me about yourself
  2. Why consulting
  3. Why us
  4. Give me an example of when you led a team
  5. Tell me about a time when you had to convince someone
  6. What has been your major achievement so far
  7. Why should we hire you

Questions about personal experience (4, 5 and 6) are standard at McKinsey, but other companies may ask them as well. To prepare those questions, I would recommend the following checklist:

  1. Understand the difference between the leadership, impact and entrepreneurial drive dimensions. You can find more on that here: PEI preparation
  2. Identify good stories for each area. Ideally you want to have two stories for each dimension
  3. Use a structure for your story. The structure should emphasize the situation, the possible consequence, what you did, the challenges that you faced, the outcome
  4. Identify for each story one sentence clarifying what the story is about and mention it at the very beginning. Think of it as the title of a newspaper article
  5. Practice live, collect feedback from other candidates, repeat until you get fluent with it

Best,
Francesco
