Hello all, I have an initial 30 mins call with a Oliver Wyman Recruiter for the US offices, has someone been through this experience and if so, can you please elaborate on the types of questions asked and how to prepare for it?

Dear candidate,

the main difference between an experienced hire interview and a “standard” interview will be your availability to demonstrate your motivation for consulting and why you would be great at the job, even more than for a standard position. So if you have limited time to prepare focus on getting your story right, really understand what consulting entails and try also to work out what, with your experience, you can particularly contribute. Other than this it is important that you can answer “standard interview questions such as”

plus points

- strengths

- what you stand for

- why this firm

- walk interviewer through your resume

experience

- leadership generally

- entrepreneurship

- personal impact

- project leadership

- particularly successful projects

- projects with strong learning curve

challenges

- weaknesses

- projects with challenges overcome/difficult boss/difficult coworker

BCG 1st & Final Round interviewer | Personalized prep with >95% success rate | 7yrs coaching | #1 for Experienced Hires

Hi there,

First of all, congrats to making it to the interview stage! In case you posted same question about EY screening call, the answer here will be very similar - if not, excuse the repetition.

These HR screening calls are typically used to..

  1. ensure you are really who your CV claims to be (not kidding here - this is real)
  2. validate your profile & motivation
  3. verify that your profile / qualifications match with the role in question
  4. see, which practice you may align best with

This means you will likely see typical personal FIT questions along the lines of the following…

  • Your motivation for the role you applied to
  • Your motivation to join OW
  • Your background / past experience (CV walk through)
  • Strengths & weaknesses, behavioral patterns in certain situations
  • Comp expectations (occasionally, but often comes later on the process)

Do not expect any detailed case / technical questions at this stage - those will come, once you make it past HR screening.

Hope this helps - feel free to reach out, if you have further questions. Meanwhile, all the best!

Regards, Andi

Hi there,

First, good luck!

(Side note: I can't help but notice you seem to be behind 3 identical “screening” questions today, just for different companies. You're overcomplicating things! You need to prepare in the same way for any screening call!)

  1. You need to be really clear on "Why consulting" as well as "why the company". You should also be ready with a resume walkthrough. More than that, you should be ready with questions of your own and be ready to talk through really any experience on your resume.
  2. Generally FIT answers are longer and more in depth. "Why consulting" would be 1 min in an interview and 20 seconds on a screening call. Additionally, you need to have personal stories prepared for the FIT interview but not for screening
