Got an interview invitation with a Senior Manager, but they stressed that this would be an informal conversation to find out more about my background and etc.

Does anyone know what this means exactly? more trying to figure out if my background fit the project or more behavioral type of question?

Tks

They are testing how potential candidate you would be, they seems to like you but are yet unsure and this is your chance to convince them. After this call you can go ahead for the recruiting process or you are out. This means, get ready like it would be a real FIT/personal interview, make sure your stories are perfect and you can shine.

Hi there,

This is part of the screening process and should not be taken lightly! Informal basically means no case. Hence, consider this a fit interview (even if they don't call it that).

Here's some key questions you have to prepare for (non-exhaustive):

  • Tell me about yourself
  • Talk me through your CV
  • Why consulting
  • Why Bain
  • Tell me about a time when you did xyz… - this is where you can shine by having examples ready for the qualities they're looking for aside from problem solving i.e. leadership, result delivery, passion

Hope this helps! Best of luck!

Hello.

I am interviewing with Bain right now and my first round was an informal meeting with an Associate Partner. There was no case, was more around cv, the type of work I had done, how was it similar/different from the work that Bain does. He also talked a bit about fitment in the team and which level I would be better placed at, etc.

Was not a stressful interview, was quite chill. After that first screening, I have had 2 more interviews and have 1 (hopefully, final) more scheduled for Monday.

All the best!

Hi Ash, thank you! this was indeed the case, do you mind sharing a bit of the timeline of the following rounds of interviews as well? Really appreciated.

Hi. So my process has taken pretty long. What I ve heard is that there is a shortage of interviewers. I started on 10th June, which was the informal screening round. My (hopefully) final round is scheduled for Monday. So its been 6 weeks or so. I am in India, btw.

Thank you so much ! was the case interview online or face to face? how was the case interview? any written case interview and how was the difficulty level?? I most probably will lateral as consultant/senior consultant level

Case interviews so far, have not been very data heavy and have been more of ideating etc. All interviews have been online. I am an experienced candidate, specifically for Bain’s PEG.
