Hi,

I feel excited and happy to have cleared the final round of interviews with McKinsey (for one of the European offices). The news was communicated to me via phone and via email by the HR, two days ago. The mail also specifically congratulates me for clearing the "final round".

However, I was also told by the HR during the same call, that I will still have a 45-minute video conference with a partner (hub leader) and that it would be " a general discussion, unlike your previous interviews".

I am yet to formally receive my offer, so I would like to specifically know if this video conference call is likely to be more of "an official welcome and getting-to-know-you call" or am I still being evaluated? The HR also mentioned about starting the paperwork & logistics for my joining, at the earliest, but I am still nervous and would like to hear from the community.

Any help will be much appreciated!

PS: I had two rounds of 3 interviews each (case+fit) as part of my recruiting interviews and I am recruiting for a specific practice as an experienced hire.

Hi there,

It sounds they want to do any final check on your PEI. It might not be clear from previous interviews.

Best,

Alberto

Hi,

It's not completely unusual - it happens sometimes when:

  • The firm is not sure about you
  • Experienced hires for a specific roles (your case)

If you haven't received the offer yet, I think it still may be a final FIT interview with an industry Hub leader who will have to give his final word.

Thus prepare once again for FIT questions and Industry specific questions

Here are some general recommendations for video interviews:

  1. First of all, check whether they are providing a conference room in a local office
  2. If not - find a place with good internet speed and test it multiple times before the interview. Also, think of nice room / proper light for the video conference if you do it from home
  3. You should be dressed the same as for the regular interview
  4. Don't hesitate to ask clarifying questions if there are problems with connection or you were not able to hear something
  5. Don't forget to look at the camera and smile - same as you do on a regular interview

Best

McKinsey | Awarded professor at Master in Management @ IE | MBA at MIT |+180 students coached | Integrated FIT Guide aut

Hello!

Because they did not reach consensus

As it has been outlined, its very similar, but :

  • Cases you can expect are more "free riding" - less organized than the ones your found in the 1st round or most prep pages
  • Stronger emphasis in the FIT part, as outlined before by other coaches.

If you are interested in deepening your knowledge and preparation on the FIT part, the "Integrated FIT guide for MBB" has been recently published in PrepLounge´s shop (https://www.preplounge.com/en/shop/tests-2/integrated-fit-guide-for-mbb-34)

It provides an end-to-end preparation for all three MBB interviews, tackling each firms particularities and combining key concepts review and a hands-on methodology. Following the book, the candidate will prepare his/her stories by practicing with over 50 real questions and leveraging special frameworks and worksheets that guide step-by-step, developed by the author and her experience as a Master in Management professor and coach. Finally, as further guidance, the guide encompasses over 20 examples from real candidates.

Furthermore, you can find 3 free cases in the PrepL case regarding FIT preparation:

- Intro and CV questions > https://www.preplounge.com/en/management-consulting-cases/fit-interview/intermediate/introduction-and-cv-questions-fit-interview-preparation-200

- Motivational questions > https://www.preplounge.com/en/management-consulting-cases/fit-interview/intermediate/motivational-questions-fit-interview-preparation-201

- Behavioural questions (ENTREPRENEURIAL DRIVE) >https://www.preplounge.com/en/management-consulting-cases/fit-interview/intermediate/behavioral-questions-entrepreneurial-drive-fit-interview-preparation-211

Feel free to PM me for disccount codes for the Integrated FIT Guide, since we still have some left from the launch!
